Just realized why I never go to local shops with my new vehicles.

I got my AS in the mail a couple days ago and just couldn't wait to have the spacers installed so I could see my truck look like a truck for the first time. I had already discussed the spacers with a mechanic I go to church with and he said they sounded simple and he'd install them for me. I should mention that this guy I go to church with is an ASE certified mechanic that owns a very nice "looking" clean shop. He's also an associate pastor at my church.

So I get home from work this morning and call him up to see if he could work me in today, and he said no problem. I run down to his shop and he looks at the spacers and tells me $80 bucks for the install. I mention to him that all you guys have said NOT TO USE A PICKLE FORK to seperate the ball joint from the control arm. He tells me not to worry that they do suspension work all the time and never use pickle forks. So he gets one of his mechanics to pull the truck in the shop and they start to work, I observe from a distance and talk to the guy I go to church with. Air rachets running I think nothing of it. Took them maybe 30 minutes to install the spacers and boy was I impressed to see my truck set level. He tells me to drive it around the block to make sure everything feels ok, so I do and everything checked out ok. I get home and inspect a little closer and what do I find? TORN DUST BOOT COVERS on both sides!!! I call him up and ask him why, and he tells me he can't believe that guy used a pickle fork that he usually uses a hammer to seperate ball joints. He tells me not to worry though that its a "dry fitting" and it shouldn't cause any problem, but if it does he'll take care of it.

What do you guys think? Is this something I should be worried about or just let it slide? I surely hope that when he bills me he will knock some off the price he quoted me. I'm in a tough situation bc I go to church with the guy and don't want to lose my temper with him over this. But heck this is a brand new truck (5K miles) I don't want torn dust boot covers no matter if its going to affect anything or not.

On a good note, the truck looks 200% better. I got the 2" lift (1 5/8" spacers) and it looks awesome. I will take it in next week for an alignment so I won't be driving it much between now and then. I could even tell a big difference in the cab, I felt like I was sitting in a truck again. Will probably be opting for wheels and tires next. Thats if these torn dust boot covers don't cause any problems for me lol!

 

Im guessin there is a reason for the rubber dust boots, and they were not ripped going in, they should not be ripped driving out.

I would be pissed knowing they ripped it and not fix it. Thats why I do the work myself so if I mess up I have nobody to be pissed at. Since I have a short temper.

 

Coming from a Tech myself, I'd make the shop fix it.

Another reason I too don't trust anyone but me to touch my stuff.
