Rear End Bouncing

I have had my 2004 F150 4x4 Styleside for about 4 weeks now and really love this truck. I did however notice something that was bugging me. When I am driving over light sharp bumps in the road I get a bounce or oscillation in the rear of the truck. I have been studying this oscillation for a few days now and feel it is coming from a combination of the rear suspension and tires. I have had a few hundred pound load in the back and it greatly reduced this bounce but it was still there occasionally.

This led me to this board which upon searching I found many many messages about this same problem. Has anyone found a solution or has anyone heard from Ford as to what this could be?

Large bumps and potholes don't seem to do this and I have noticed this from speeds around 15 to 50 mph. It seems to be better at highway speeds.

I did notice this from day one but it's starting to bug me now...

Have you owned a truck before? 'Bed Hop' is perfectly normal. It maybe more noticable in the new trucks since everything is so stiff..

I love a newbie who comes to the board, does some research , then asks a question.

Welcome to the board!

Nanners for the new guy!

On a side note, I have not noticed it on mine, and I now have 20,000 miles on it...had it since December of last year. I have seen people here posting about it, but I have been in and followed many a new F-150 and haven't seen it. Maybe someone else can give you some feedback.

I have the XLT as well. Is yours 4x4?

This is perfectly normal. These trucks are built so stiff, that it makes that hop more noticable then it was on the previous generation F150's.

Installing a set (4) of performance shocks such as the Edelbrock IAS units will greatly improve this condition. While giving better control and handling over the stock shocks.

My truck came with the ultra rare option (ABH 697204) anti bed hop. It was well worth the extra money.

Such a warm welcome!

What a welcome!

I actually got a chuckle out of the replys. I have owned alot of vehicals such as a 1999 Expedition, 1997 Explorer, 2001 Mustang GT, 1969 F-250 with 6inch lift, 1978 Chevy 3/4 ton, 1977 TransAm, 1972 Ford Torino with a 351 Cleveland, 1968 GTO, 1972 Pontiac LeMans, 1991 Cutlass, 1973 Dodge Charger w/ 383 Magnum and about a dozen others. But this is my first new model pickup and so far I really like this truck but I am a critic and when I feel something or hear something I have never noticed before I take note!

Again, thanks for the welcome!
