ARE Cover and Light Circuit?

Had my ARE cover installed a few weeks ago on my 04 FX4 Super Crew. I had the bed-rug material added to the under side to match my bed-rug, the remote controlled lock, and the light. The probem I have is that the light was tapped into the park light circuit. This has turned out to be a pain to turn my park lights on every time I want to use my bed after dark. What I want to do is tap into the same circuit that automatically shuts off after a predetermined time(hour or so). I know that the interior lights are on this circuit but I don't want to destroy the truck looking for the circuit. Does anyone know where this circuit can be found? Either location of or wire color of circuit would greatly be appreciated.

Try wiring the 12 volt light straight from the battery but fused that way you will have light back there whenever you want it.Also the third brake light on your Top,dont let them wire that off your brake lights in the rear because when you are stopped and have your turn signal on the third brake light will blink instead of stay just a brake light ,that wire can be found on the rear passenger floor molding in the door jam I think the color is green which is the wire the heats up your trucks third brake light. Hope this helps I have a A.R.E Z series top and love it the bed rug is a must have also.

It's your lucky day, I just added lights to my hard tonneau cover last weekend.

I tied mine to the interior dome light circuit so that it goes on whenever I hit the door remote. Wiring is located in the lower driver's side door sill. Wire color is black with a light blue stripe. There are two wires, probably one for the exterior bed light, and the other for the rear interior dome light. They are both on the same circuit as far as I know, so tie into either one.

This should work if you are satisfied with having the interior lights on whenever you want your bed lit. Extended lighting time is available by using the dash dimmer (this shuts off automatically after about a half hour as well.)

Myst,
How can you extend the lighting time? When I hit the remote to turn the existing cargo light on, it only stays on for a couple minutes, then shuts off. Thanks.
