Undercover Question
Undercover Question
About 2 months ago I bought and installed the Undercover bed cover for my truck. (04' FX4 Dark Grey). My question is that after numerous openings and closings of the cover, it is starting to rub up where the cover pivots causing some rather large scrath/rub marks in the paint. Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? I've checked the cover and it is even on both sides. It's starting to get where wax is not going to continue to clean up the marks.
Thanks,

I also had an undercover installed on my truck a few months ago, One of the 1st things i noticed was that it rubbed the side of the truck when opened, It has been off the truck more than it has been on the truck so it has maybe been opened on the truck only 30 or 40 times so i have not seen any visual sign of damage yet but i am very concerned over time if it will rub into the paint. I wondered if i was the only one to notice the rubbing. I too would be interested if there was anything anyone did to help with this issue. I wonder if some soft felt or something could be applied to the little corner of the lid so it would not be the hard plastic against the truck, but even that would scratch in any debris that was on the truck. Maybe there is a way the cut-off or removed that little piece on the corner of the cover.
I think he's talking about the side of the bed itself, right up near the cab. Open your cover and you'll see just how tight the fit is. My appears to rub, but not enough to harm the paint. It hasn't yet after a lot of open/shut work.
You may need to adjust the cover a little. Loosen some bolts, re-center and tighten down again. If your not dead-nuts on, it'll rub.

Mine too...I put some clear duct tape on the bed side where the lid was rubbing (I know, "shade tree") I've checked a couple local auto parts stores trying to find a small strip of transparent 3M material for a better fix.
Thanks for the replies. I have checked for center and does not appear to be too much I can do. Thought about taking the dremel tool and shaving the inner part of the cover, making it thinner. What do you think?

I too noticed that when opening the lid that it had a tendency to rub against the side of the bed. I loosened mounting hardware and adjusted the lid a little further forward and it has taken care of the problem.
I moved the cover forward towards the cab. I had a little over hang on mine at the top of the tailgate so I had room to push it forward. It now fits perfectly flush to the outer surface of the tailgate, and when open neither one of the "flares" on the front of the cover makes contact with the sides of the bed. It takes a little time but you can adjust it if you try hard enough.

i had the same problem so i called undercover. they said that they were supposed to fix that issue before the covers were shipped. at that corner the plastic is very thick. i took my belt sander and cut about an 1/8th inch off the thickness as they told me to. no rubbing, and there is good clearence there now.
