3M Clear Bra Update
I have my entire front end done (except hood, I have a bug deflector) and headlights and foglights. All I can say is that its worth every penny.
Easy to wash, and no stone chip damage.
There is a visible line on the fenders, but you must be looking for it to see it. Most people don't even know I have it until I tell them or show them.
If you drive on the highway often, then it's worth it's weight in gold.
It's best to have it done when the vehicle is new, that way it will look like new for a long time. And you can always remove it when you wish.
I give it 2 thumbs up!!

Don't wash it? Pfft. You do remember who you're dealing with here right? LOL!
Thanks for the continued information guys. I'm exceedingly interested in seeing some pictures that you guys that have 'dark' colored trucks might have of the film on the front end.
Also, if you don't mind me putting a blanket question out there; how much did you all pay for your 3M bras? I've found a vendor online that has them for around $270 shipped but, of course, not installed.
Is this something that I could install myself?

If you guys don't mind me asking....about how much did it cost to have it installed?
I've had bug deflecters before on my other Ford trucks but I don't like the look on the new 04's.
WedgewoodScrew- I have the same color truck in a Screw to....I love how the blue turns purple and grey with different sun light angles!

This sounds like something YOU should be offering your detailing customers. Contact the MFG about becoming a dealer for this stuff. They undoubtedly have training available in its application. Get some samples and practice, practice, practice. Then you could get into the whole vehicle graphics thing...that stuff is one hot market right now.
Sounds like a business opportunity knocking to me.

Interesting perspective there jaymz. I don't really know which direction my detailing business is going at the moment but, it's certainly an option.
Thanks for rattling my cage on that. It's certainly something for me to consider if the detailing thing moves forward in any way/shape/form.
At this point, I'm on hold because of my 'real' job situation. There's a chance I may be taking a position which requires relocation and, that being the case, I don't think I want to further establish myself here in this area but rather start focusing on my new market.

I have seen precut
3m kits on ebay for less than 100 dollars. Might be worth a try for that price. I have a friend who had it done to his vette at a Benz dealership - Cost him $700 for the hood, frt fenders, bumper
cover, parking and headlights......
His car is magnetic red (burgundy) - can't really tell from 10 feet.
Try this link from 3m's website for installers:

I'm not sure how I missed your post but, while surfing back through this thread, I caught it.
Thanks a BUNCH for your input. Quick question, do you happen to have a picture of your black vette's line where the body film is applied? I'm VERY interested in this technology but, if it really stands out like you indicate, I may reconsider and put some money in the kitty for a repaint in a few years.

DZERVIT,
What dealer did you have it done at?
Exactly how much of your truck is covered? I know the hood, fenders, and lights. What about the grille surround and bumper?
I think I talked to you before. Do you live in Lincoln Park?

I will try to get a few pics tomorrow for you. The lines are fairly hard to notice in the sun. It's in the garage and over cast days that they show the most.
I did the installed my myself and it was the first time I had ever done this. There was one area on the kit I received which had a slight wrinkle in it. I figured it would come out when installed. Wrong!
Here is another site you might look at if you haven't already http://www.clearbra.com/
They will send you a detailed installation DVD no charge. I ordered on a Sunday and had the DVD in three days.
I believe I paid $225.00 shipped for the whole front end kit. Hood, fender pieces, lower and upper bumper. I found this person on ebay.

First ¼ of the hood, headlamps, painted upper grill portion, and a bit on the front fenders. Grill surround is chrome, so not needed.
Yup, we had a chit-chat prior. LP baby! Well, not really, its a crap hole..
A few posts back, a question was asked regarding price. In my case, I paid $284 installed. In my case, with the Lariat I had the upper and lower painted bumpers, first 1/4 of the hood, front 1/8 of the fenders, headlights and foglights done. The install was nearly perfect. I don't know if it's been mentioned in this thread but the material on the headlights is about 5 times thicker (40 mil.....I think) than the normal material. Supposedly it can take a hit from a rock (or whatever) at high speeds and the lens won't break. I'd really like to know if that claim is accurate, but I'd rather not be the guinea pig on this one.
pics on black
These are not the best pics, but it does show the line.
I did QD the hood Just before taking the pics.
Lompoc has the dirtest air of any city I have ever seen. We mine diatomaceous earth and it is a real frustating having a black car living here.
I went from spotless to this in a matter of seconds

Here's a pic of the whole car. On the side behind the wheel well, I have a product called cleartastic. This is static cling protector that works very well.

After looking at the pics... what's the problem? Looks like your car was beat to sheet!!! Nothing would protect that thing! What on earth hit the car that made this line in the film?!
I gotta say I'd think you'd be praising the film, since all you have to do is peel it off and your paint is like the day you got the car... I can't imagine the bill from the body shop if you didn't have it.

Thanks for the pics!
I've got a laptop here at work and the glare from the window behind me is enough to make it difficult to see thus, I'm going to take a peek at it tonight on my old school 19" monitor at home. Thanks again...
