Well you asked for everyones opinion, did you get enough different answers to confuse yourself even more? When it comes to speakers everyone has their own opinion and guess what they are all correct, for themselves. Do yourself a favor and do what dzervit said. Go listen for yourself and pick out the ones your ears like. Problem solved.:santa:

I thought our trucks had 6"x8"? Do the 5"x7" speakers fit also?

Im my experience, the 5x7's and 6x8's are usually (or at least sometimes) the same. If you want them mounted in holes designed for 6x8's, you mount them as-is... If you want them mounted in holes designed for 5x7's, then you break off a few tabs, then mount them.

you always want the speaker to fill up the opening perfectly so that there is not a air gap connecting the front and rear side of the speaker. I was an installer, working my way through school and From what I have seen 6x8's are the way to go in Ford vehicles. They usually fit perfect! The ford holes are 6x8's

speaker covers

Is the speaker installation easy or should I have a pro do it. I am somewhat handy but intimidated by the thought of scratching my truck interior. The cover for the speaker looks like it is tough to get off.

It's simple. Just make sure you get the speaker adaptor wire so you don't have to strip/tap into the factory wire to connect the new speaker. Go to any Best Buy and they sell them ($6)
