This is poop. Part 2.

The same problem popped up this past Saturday. I was driving in a dark parking lot at about 5 MPH. I had my foot on the brake and at the same time I hit this hole that was about 4-7 inches deep and ran from one side of the parking lot lane to the other. As I hit it I felt a vibration in the brake pedal. I stopped, put the truck in park and got out to check if everything was alright considering the impact that I felt...
I went on with driving and crossed the street to go into the mall. As I exited the parking lot I sped up to about 30 MPH... then all of a sudden, *BEEP* my truck slows down and the check engine soon light lights up and the truck enters "Engine Failsafe Mode." I then realize that my ABS light had lit up...
I drive home right after this since I knew it wasn't safe for me to drive it anywhere else. Today my parents dropped the truck off and as I got home they told me what was wrong. I was really amazed at what they told me so I went down to the dealership and found out myself.
The service technician told me that the "Check Engine Soon" light problem would be fixed and that it is under warranty. There was a problem though with the ABS cable that is located near the rear differential. He explained that whenever I was driving, my flowmaster exhaust pipes would touch the cables, creating a heat that ended up damaging the ABS cable. Now, we have to get a new cable which costs $250.00
2 questions: With the "Engine Failsafe Mode" problem happening again for a second time, what are the odds that I might have a lemon of a truck?
Also, what should I do considering the ABS cable problem? I was told that I should explain to Ford that those cables should have been protected with a metal coat in the first place. I have also thought about going down to the muffler shop I got it installed to get reimbursed for the money that it will cost to fix this.

that engine failsafe deal is scary. I have a flowmaster on my rig, I am gonna check and see it the heat shield is far enough away from the abs cable you mentioned. My truck has never done that, but one time my wifes 2004 Exploder went into failsafe as I attempted to pass another vehicle on a two lane rd at 65mph, luckily I was able to safely pull to the shoulder. It just slowly lost power and speed. Once I put in park, turned it off and restarted, ever thing was fine and it hasnt done it again. This drive by wire stuff sure adds some interesting twists.

MM act states you have to go after the aftermarket manufacturer if you dont use factory spec parts.

When making modifications before the Manufactures warranty has ended. Part of the risk you take is exactly what your experiencing now.... you feel the problem has happened in the past, and it may very well been a legitimate issue but now that you have modified the truck in such a way that even in an abstract way the dealer may blame it on the change... and more than likely it would stick.... good luck in the future if your motor goes south for any reason...
