Anyone have Exhaust on '04 4.6?

I was thinking about gettting some flowmasters or something. Just wondering how loud an exhaust on the 4.6 is inside and outside the cab? thanks...

I have a Catback Magnaflow system on my 4.6 Regular STX. Is that what you mean? My 18 inch Magnaflow was too darn loud, not usable. My 24 inch is not to bad. You can hear it, but it's not bad. If you romp it, it roars.

Now to irritate others. I have put close to 2000 bucks in addons on my truck. The only one that I wish I hadn't bothered with is the exhaust. If you stomp on the throttle a lot, or run at speeds above 80, then it's for you. Otherwise the stock exhaust is better.

Smoother torque and a surprisingly good sound with a Superchips from the stock muffler.

Of course I do like the rumble, and my 0-99 times are great.

I have the Flowmaster 40 series on my 04 STX 2 wheel drive, 4.6L. Single in, dual out from the cat back.

I LOVE IT!

It sounds perfect on the outside, and on the inside it isnt too loud thanks to that quiet technology stuff. I wouldnt trade it in for anything else. I have gotten a ton of compliments on my exaust.

I'm also thinking about putting a new exhaust on my 4.6 too. Want a nice low rumble, nothing to loud though....

If you say you want something 'not too loud', then a super 40 is probably not for you. Had one on my 4.6, I did love the sound, but I have a fiberglass cap that acts as an echo chamber. There was a tiny rpm range that just resonated the heck out of the whole truck. I swapped the 40 out for a 50 series SUV muffler, kept the pipes, and have been nothing but happy since. Never been in a truck with a 40 and an open bed though, so I can't say anything about the interior sound...

I would say check into Ravin's Z55 muffler. Go to www.goravin.com or www.ravin.us

If you want loud though, check out their Z33 (what I have). Great (best imo!) sounding exhaust and there is really not too much resonance. Cant hear my Airaid any more though!

Check my gallery for some pics!

Thanks dude..... the decal under the NRA sticker says "Warning - Driver only carries $20 in ammo" It did not come out in the picture good.

I am selling a magnaflow stock side exit cat back setup(15281). It only has 4k miles on it. I am letting it go for 325+ shipping. It sells way more then that new on the net.

I just had a flowmaster 40 series put on my 4.6 reg cab, single in duals out and went straight out the back, I have noticed I cant even hear it at low idle and neither could my friends at work, it sounds good when you put your foot into it though, not loud at all, if you want my opinion go with the flowmasters, btw I went to a local muffler shop they did the whole thing for 200 bucks beats buying a kit and then having to pay someone to mount it. plus muffler carries a lifetime warranty!

I agree. For one, flow rates are terrible in comparison to others. The sound on Fords is not to my liking, it drones, whines and screams like a high pitch banshee with no sound character. Also everyone has Flowmaster. So I was unique and went with Ravin and havent looked back!

I could give you more reasons why I dont like Flowmasters on Ford, but I doubt anyone cares! Go with the muffler you like and the sound you like!

There are much better mufflers out there for the money. That make more power, less drone, sound better(IMO), etc. etc. Flowmasters is old school technology and hasnt caught up with the rest of the muffler aftermarket. I had flowmaster 40 series on my big block truck, and I refuse to put them back on.

Angry

I have a 04 F-150 V-8 5.4
Just installed a Mangaflow dual out the rear. The moaning of the exhaust in the cab is really load. I really dislike the system. I wish I left it at stock and when with a chip instead.

Thanks for the reply. I've read some of your other posts so I'm interested in your opinion. If you were to buy a muffler with performance as priority 1 and outside cab sound#2 which would it be?
