Rattles

Anybody got a problem with their ashtray door rattling? At first I thought it was coming from the console area around the shifter until I happened to open the tray door -- I could feel it vibrating. It's one of those little noises that drives you nuts because these trucks are so quiet.

The jack also sqeaks so I shoved a rolled up towel under the fold-up seat. Fixed that noise.

My ashtray drives me insane. I yanked my jack long ago...

I'm thinking electrical tape on the perimeter of the tray, then wedge it back in may solve it, but sometimes it seems like it's the slide-out tray itself and not the actual ASHtray.

Thus far I've just cranked the radio to avoid hearing it.

rattle

I've had my dash apart 4 times trying to find a rattle. Finally I took it apart and had my dad drive me around while I looked for it, come to the conclusion that it's not in the dash its at the very bottom of the front window in the corner. The dealer has it now looking for it. When I put my dash back together I dropped a bolt so now I have it rolling around back there also, the dealership is supposed to be getting that out also.

This is my first post.

I've got about 2500 miles on my red Lariat screw and the ashtray is driving me nuts as well.

It wasn't there when picked it up from the dealer... it surfaced at about 1500 miles.

The ashtray is nice and quite if I leave it open... anyone else's behave like this?

I am taking the truck in soon for it's 3k mile service, and I will definately have them check it out.

Other than that rattle... I love my new truck.

I don't smoke and I wouldn't mind taking the whole thing out. Anybody making a mounting kit yet for CB or shortwave radios?

No ashtray problem, but a wind noise either with the window on the driver's side seal problem, or the wind going around the mirror is making the sound. Anyone else having that problem?

You mean a rattle sound from the driver side? I have that from time to time, but only with a very strong crosswind. Under normal driving on a calm day, no problem.

I had the ame wind noise from the drivers side mirror. Took it in and they said there was something on the hotline about it. whatever the hotline is. But they replaced the mirror and no more noise. I did not hear it all the time but when I would get a cross wind it was much louder, but sometimes not at all....Now if I can just get rid of the rattle from the steering wheel I will be happy.

Not a rattle sound, definate wind noise. It does sound like areodynamic effect of the mirror, but then again it could be a bad window seal. Guess I will take it in and have the dealer look at it, thanks for your feedback, I will post if I get any results.

I had two rattles one in the steering column and one in the ashtray. To fix the ashtray the just ordered a new one and made sure it was nice and tight. It only rattles now when I go down a really bad road. I found it also helps to take the ashtray out of the ashtray if that makes sense.

I test drove an XLT before my Lariat came and It had terrible wind noise from the mirror. I was relieved when my Lariat came to find no wind noise whatsoever. I would assume something is wrong if you are getting wind noise from your mirrors and have your dealer check it out.
