When should I change to synthetic?
Uh, we aren't driving a porche or a corvette, we are drive a FORD F150! It is a truck, not a high performance sports car
Any engine benifits from full syn oils. Even more so on the hardworking engines like high-reving sports cars or hard-working truck engines. So you drive an F150... why treat it like crap? Unless you lease and/or don't give a hoot about long-term care.

Everyone has an opinion on this. Nobody is right or wrong. I personally don't plan on keeping my truck more than a year or two, so I don't care. I go with what the dealer does (for free). If I want to run pancake syrup through the damned thing, I will.

I'm sure if I follow you down the street I will end up at the pancake house , after smelling your exhaust for a while...
My dad deals a bit on the side.
We use Amsoil synthetic in all our vehicles. We usually switch between 1k-3k miles. Although the point about the rings needing time to "seal" or seat themself properly, I have always heard that on the newer modular engines that this process happens reatively quickly?
We will be putting Amsoil synthetics into every part of the vehicle (engine, diff, tranny, powersteering, etc) within the next thousand miles or so. Our FX4 just turned over 1k miles last week. The lariat has about 4k miles and everything is synthetic.

ADANIELS98:
[Q]you say that you have heated seats yet the fx4's never had the option for them, so how did you get them.[/Q]
I had them installed aftermarket and then went back and added the yellow/blk leather seats.
As for the oil discussion, I have also heard you should breakin the motor first b4 going with all synthetic. That is why I asked.
I plan on running this truck until it's dead in the water so I need it to last as long as possible.
Thanx for the reply guys and gals.
