Unhappy 2004 FX4 Paint

I have a question for any one out there that has a 2004 FX4, I custom ordered my truck from the factory, I have had the truck since December 27,2003. I now have serious problems with the paint. The paint is bubbling under the gel coat. I had the side repainted, now the tailgate needs to be done. Has anyone else had this problem. I also have had the truck in 2 times to have the bed tightened down..

Welcome to f150online.com JanM! We're very glad to have you aboard.

In an effort to help you out with your paint issue on your truck, I'm going to move this thread up to the 2004/2005 forum as that is typically where the vast majority of folks with similar issues are likely to reside on a frequent basis.

Again, we're glad to have you aboard!

fwiw, i had a similar issue with my '01... no problems yet with the new '04.... painting a vehicle is a science and an art, and i reckon a certain percentage will bubble or peel.... and rightly or wrongly, i think ford has a reputation for having more of its share of paint issues? hopefully your dealer has a good paint shop and they'll get it right for you. good luck, and welcome to the forum.... show us some pics in a gallery when you can?

Bummer, your's was much more visable to see then mine was. I did have the whole side painted and now it has to go back and be redone.

The body shop did a horrible job on it and now I have moisture in my tail lights. We have also found another spot on the tailgate. Other than that, I do love my truck...

Sorry to hear of the problems...

In all honesty the paint on my '04 FX4 has been flawless to date. Even the painted bumpers have not one rock chip.

I hope you get things worked out - I would not consider this normal, for sure.

I have an 04 Lariat and the paint has a lot of orange peel and several areas have dirt in the clear coat. How does this happen in this day and age? This is my 4th new Ford and this one has the worst paint by far.
