Question 20" Wheels, What tyres?

I am getting some 20" wheels and have been given an option of 275/45/20 or 285/50/20. Which one should I go for? I've an 04 4x4 Lariat.

Any input would be welcome.

Unhappy 20" tires

It depends on the width of the wheels. I put 22" wheels with 285/45/22 nitto tires on my new 04 r/c and they fit perfect. My rims are 9.5 wide though. Just FYI.

I say 285, which you can fit on either a 8.5" or 9.5" rim, but I say go with the wider! I had 305 on a 22x9.5 inch rim on my 03 Screw.

Wider = better handleing as your putting more rubber to the road. However, it ALSO means more rolling resistance and in turn less MPG's for you. Minor, but always a factor. Plus, wider tires blow in heavy snow. Wider tires excel in soft stuff like sand.

Or if you don't give a hoot about anything I've said above, get the wider tires for a more aggressive look.

Thanks for all the input, just what I wanted to hear.

Looks like it's the 285's then.

In my opinion it seems like the 285/50/20 would look to small diameter wise on a 4x4

On a 4x4, I'd go with at least a 305/50-20 unless you have lowered the truck. These work out to be approximately 32 inches tall, which is the same height as the stock tires. The 285/50-20's will be about an inch shorter (approximately 31 inches).

Now I'm confused, need more posts. Should I ask to pay for bigger tyres?

I have 285/50/20's on my 2wd truck and I lowered the back end 2 inches and I think I should've gone with bigger tires. I'd say you definately need a larger tire.

Thanks again guys, I think I'll go with the 305/50/20.

Hope this is the right choice.
