355/65/18 Terra Grapplers

I have searched the boards and have not found any posts in regards to these bad boys.

I got a good deal on a set of these, but now I must figure out what kind of rim to wrap with them.

I have a 2004 fx4 with a 4" Rancho lift. I noticed that Nitto's website recommends an 11 inch wide rim, but these are very hard to come by.

My question is this, what is the smallest width rim I can run?

I have seen several Helo rims, but they are all 9".

I have also seen some KMC XD's which run a 18x12 or 18x9.

Will these fit? I know Rancho says that you can have a Maximum of 6-inch backspacing, BUT how does the other side's (outer) width get affected.

For instance 18x12 has a backspacing of 5", so in theory 7" is sticking out past the mounting rotor. Will they rub on the outside?

What is the technical term for this outside measurement?

Does anyone know what the MAX inches that our trucks can handle on this "outside" measurement?

It would help me play around with sizes and backspacing, for the various 18x9, 18x9.5, 18x10, and 18x12 rims I have found.

If anyone has any ideal rim spec's for running these tires, please let me know.

Thanks again for any and all help.

Hmmm... 355/65/18 sounds kinda big for a 9" rim. I was able to fit a car tire 335/30/18 (reccomended for a 11-12" wide rim) on a 10" wide rim no problem, so I would think a 9.5" rim for the truck with 355/65/18 would work, maybe...

GFX4,

Does your truck happen to be yellow, and do you park off of St. Paul street.

Yes it is yellow, and yes I do park there in Downtown Dallas. I just got the wheels and tires put on yesterday. Now I need to fix the "rub."

I went with Eagle 178 series 18x9 with 355/65/18 Terra Grappelers. After all the America Eagle has this configuration on a lifted f150 in their catalog, so i assumed it would be safe.

Except that I am running the Rancho kit which sits a little lower than Fab's, Pro Comp's, and Skyjacker's.

Now I need to decide on my next options so I can make u-turns again.

1. Autospring 1.5" + some kind addl of rear lift (add a leaf - I dont want to be nose high)
2. DayStar Leveing kit 2.5" + some kind addl of rear lift (add a leaf - I dont want to be nose high)
3. Performance 3 " body lift

I will post pics in a bit

Pix

Here are some pix of these mounted beasts.

I have a some rub, but I am leaning towards the Autospring for ease of installation. I don't want to sacrifice the good ride that the Rancho lift offers.

That truck is H-O-T.

Will some trimming prevent the rub? Where is it rubbin?

Thanks.

The "rub" is occurring on both sides of fender opening. As you can see, I trimmed the front valence a bit with a razor (I was thinking about removing completely, but then I figured the front would look weird).

Then there is the corner of the metal bumper that digs into the tread, on turns. Maybe shims at mounting point that would push the bumper forward 1/4 of an inch.

Some rubbing is also happening on the door side of the fender. I can probably do some trimwork on the FX4 fender trim to help.

Since I cannot turn very well, and U-turns are out of the question...I just ordered the Autospring kit Next Day air, so will install on Saturday and see what trimwork, if any, is still needed, before I start going razor happy.

I think the lift will help a lot, because, evemn with trimming, there is still "rub" possibility on hard turns, or "Curb Hopping."

I am a little concerned about being nose high, so I am going to look into a rear 1-2" inch solution. I don't think Rancho has their add-a-leaf out yet, so I might have to look into other options...not too sure about air-bags.

The only option I found to bring up the rear is the Skyjacker Add-A-Leaf kit.

Rancho and DayStar were both supposed to make a similar kit, but they have no release date yet.

For those of you have installed a front level kit on a stock or lifted (lift that uses factory leafs like the Rancho one I have) F150, this might interest you if you want to raise the rear up 1.5"

SkyJacker Part # r3415

Basically it is an add-a-leaf that is part of their 3" suspension package. (3" comes from the leafs' 1.5" plus a 1.5" block)

I will keep ya'll posted after I install the AutoSpring Front 2" and the Skyjacker Add-a-Leaf. While I am at it, I am gonna add the Rancho skid plate that is now shipping.

Man your truck looks sweet! Cant wait to see it with the leveling kit installed! Take some pics before you add the leaf in the rear
(if you would), I kinda want to see what these trucks look like nose up.

A friend of mine out in California just got that set-up with the fenders. Daryl, owner of Sik50s. The fenders help out a lot and personally I don't think they look bad.
