Question 2005 Audiophile w/ MP3

I just got my 2005 SCREW Lariot. It has the Audiophile package, and in the owners manual it talks about MP3 capability. Well, I burnt a MP3 cd this morning and put it in, and it said CD-Rom and ejected the disc. Anyone know how to get around this? As far as I know it is the version with MP3 capability.

I have searched around a bit, and found no one with an '05 to answer my question.

Thanks in advance,
PJ

1. It's lari-A-t!

2. Did you 'close' the disc when you burned it? Did the manual say anything about format/bitrate/etc..?

3. Since it's such a new feature, you may need to talk to your dealer or call Ford.

Keep us posted!

Becuase a 'normal' audio CD can only hold 80 minutes of tunes. In MP3 format, that very same CD can pack in 100's of minutes!!! We're talking like 100 songs vs 20 songs on a single disc!!!!

EDIT: How can it do that? Compression, BABY!!!

The only thing I can see possibly is the fact that the manual has two of the same systems in it. One says [Title of Audiophile Syste] (Late availibility). That is the one with the MP3 info in it. If this is so, I guess they may offer an upgrade to it.

Anyone?

I also have an '05 Lariat w/ audiophile and NO MP3 capability.

From the manual (late availability) I gather that this feature won't be available until mid model-year or so. I'll hope that there's a magical software upgrade for my truck at that point, but I won't count on it! Bummer!

700 MB CD / 4 meg songs = 175 per disc

6 discs x 175 songs = 1,050 songs in your changer

Rock on

The 05's already have mp3 cd players in them.Does it say mp3 under the disc slot?If it doesnt, you dont have the mp3 cd player. Its an option on all the trucks, just because you bought an lariat doesnt mean it has it in it.

I think MP3 capablilty is supposed to be standard on all audiophile systems. But, they didn't start adding this feature from the beginning, hence the "late availability" note in the manual. I know I'm not supposed to have it because I have a Lariat - I should have it because I have the audiophile.

I was at the car show at the state fair, and they had an 05 mustang. The head unit looked almost exactly like my stock 04 head unit, except it had "mp3" marked on it in white letters.

My guess is that if it dosent say mp3 on the deck, it wont read mp3's

He said he's got the audiophile, it should include it.

However, due to the 'late availliblity' he prolly didn't get it.

Note to Ford:

This technology has been around for quite a while.

If you want me to consider a Ford next time around, step up a few notches on the technology front.

If I can buy a DVD player that will play MP3 formatted files worth 2.X gig of listening enjoyment for less than $200 you should offer this to me on my next Ford vehicle around the time I can get it at Best Buy.

If you can't do that, please don't call it Audiophile.

Thanks.

I noticed the headunit in the new Montego (Mercury version of the 500) said MP3 on it. Like someone else said, they look identical and I bet the wiring plugs in the back are identical too. Which means plug-and-play. I have been checking our Ford computer for a price/ part # but nothing as of yet.

Once they do release a part # and people start realizing this will fit in older models and start buying them, Ford will see the movement and jack the price WAY up. Case in point, the 01 Lightning headlights, taillights, Bullit Fuel door and the Focus HID kits from the Mach edition. When all those first became available, the price was relatively cheap. Then they saw a lot of movement and doubled the price! I ordered my Bullit fuel door right before the jump @ $29. Didn't prepay and by the time it came in it had hit $100. Luckily I knew the parts manager and he gave it to me for $60 but I bet this will happen to this too!

I have an aftermarket MP3 player in my Contour and LOVE it. I can fit about 100-120 songs on a single CD. I put them in folders for different genres and such it is great! I haven't burnt a regular audio CD for myself in forever! Thats why i am watching this for my Dad's F150!
