Ford Bug Deflector Help?

Hey guys, on the 04 f150, do you have to remove the grill top install a factory ford bug deflector? I haven't yet mounted it but from looking at it, it looks like it has plastic that slips in between the front grill and hood, just curious!

affirmative. and it's a chore, so if possible have a buddy assist...

if you click that little 'search' button and look for 'bug guard' or 'deflector' you'll find a recent thread in which a member gives a real good description of how that's done, which helped me as the factory instructions are like a picto-puzzle...

moto,

You've got to at least loosen all of the nuts/bolts (6 nuts behind the top of the grill and 2 bolts in each bracket holding the grill assembly to the hood; all 10mm..deep socket) to make enough space for the deflector to fit between the grill and the hood.
When I first installed my deflector, I removed the grill completely. On subsequents removals/installations (to polish and wax) I just made sure the grill assembly was loose enough for removal.

Good luck,

Don't forget to use the plastic protective tape for the clips that go on the corners of the hood.

and mark the spot where the clips will attach carefully... if you get that wrong and put the tape on and then have to move the clips you'll be sorry....
