muffler drone

My 2000 f150 5.4 had a flowmaster muffler, cruising at 55-60 mph it had a horrible drone. I have recently bought a new f150 supercrew fx4 and was thinking of getting a new muffler ,but I do not want that drone again. What is a good muffler, with good performance and no drone?

Thanks Guys

Definetly stay away from Flowmaster if you dont want the drone and resonance in the cab.

A couple of choice that you have if you are looking for the same loudness (minus the drone) check into:

Ravin Exhaust And look into their Z33 series muffler. Ravins Main Site

IMCO Mufflers They have a muffler that has a similar tone to Flowmaster. slightly different design and deeper tone.

Forza Flow They have a unique design which has a real muscular tone.

I am personally going with the Ravin Z33 on my 04 5.4L. Hopefully my exhaust tips will get in tomorrow, and I will get it installed. I had Magnaflows on my 03 5.4L and didnt care for the sound, real mild with a bit of character, but not enough IMO.

I have a IMCO and it drones great at 65 cruise. Now i'm sure they do have a model with sound and quietness . Contact there site and inquire about a model that has the feature you like. Also welcome to the forum baja.

I got a Magnaflow and there’s no drone at any speed or RPM towing or not.

Gtullous,

What magnaflow muffler and what size tip did you use, I like the way that looks, and alot cheaper than the catback system.

You are correct. I have the Super 40 and it's great. It's no where close to the old 40 series muffler.

That's what I would like to do. Replace just the muffler and nothing else. What Magnaflow model number did you use?

Ill put a vote in for the Borla cat back, no drone and sounds great when you step on the gas. Otherwise nice and quiet.

No offense but...... I love Borla and have had their kits on a few of my Fords. Then I saw how the driverside exhaust pipe hangs down under the spare tire. It looks terrible from behind and would catch on just about anything if you went off roading.

You would have to hit something hard enough to move the pumpkin out of the way first since the pipe sits directly behind it. Otherwise you can use some of the other dual rear outlets and remove your spare tire so the pipe will fit. Im not doing any major off roading so this was my best choice and unless you get on your hands and knees youll never know how the pipe is routed. For others that dont like this set up or takes their truck major leage off roading this might not be the set up for you. Also if you do heavy off roading you shouldnt use the dual rear outlets anyway because it will take about 4 inches of departure angle away from the rear of your truck. To each his own, sometimes you have to choose whats best for you.

Sorry, dont get me wrong I love Borla and you're right it is perfect for some guys. You can see the pipe when you drive up behind somone that has the Borla. Its pretty noticable. I guess if you were in a truck you wouldn't see it but if you were in a car you would see it right away.

I would have to agree with grayflare. You would have to do some major damage to hit the pipe as for noticing it, I took some pics of my install and i had the camera one foot off the ground and you can hardly notice it. If that crossover pipe is hanging low enough to hit, then the guy really screwed up on the install........oh the borla does sound great and it is pretty quite when it needs to be.
