Diff Btwn Fx4 And 4x4
You see the FX4 on the F150 build but this is the F250 option build and why I was asking
XL
base MSRP: $23,365
XLT
base MSRP: $26,570
Lariat
base MSRP: $31,660
King Ranch
base MSRP: $39,805
Cab:
Regular Cab
SuperCab
Crew Cab
Drive:
4X2
4X4
Box:
6-3/4'
8'
Then under packages it gives you an FX4 option which is why I was asking the question is there a difference because the option is after you have picked your style
Camper Package $160.00
- Heavy Service Front Springs
- Rear Stabilizer Bar
- Slide-In Camper Certification
- Auxiliary Springs
FX4 Off-Road Package $225.00
- Transfer Case and Fuel Tank Skid Plates
- Rancho Branded Front and Rear Shocks
- "FX4" Decal
Heavy Service Suspension Package $125.00
- Heavy Service Front Springs
- Steering Damper
Just curious I guess you are just getting the skid plates standard any other option just get the skid plates also and it is the same basically.

That is why I was wondering what the difference was.
I know when I was contemplating a F250 it gave the option FX4 on the build but when I built the F150 it didn't have that option.
Thanks for the help.

You're right, of course about ordering a truck to get it just the way you want it. I've spent hours searching my metro area for the "perfect" truck, and have had very little luck, but had to settle for something close. With the rebates available, plus the really sweet deals offered by the Ford dealership closest to me, I'm opting for a 2004 (I know, KingRanch isn't even available for 2004s). I think I'd have to put in about three grand additional to get a 2005 "just like I'd like it". A few hundred in features I hadn't considered is reasonable when I look at the price difference.

The interior is the main reason I wanted the FX4!
I have to admit that the quiet gleaming of the FX4 interior IS nice... I'm hoping to acheive the same effect with heavy doses of armor all...
The XLT interior is well, utilitarian in a lot of ways. The heavy doses of plastic are a little sad. I swear it wasn't too long ago (yeah, I know, my age is showing) when every trim level on a vehicle had at least a little wood grain or leather. I was shopping for dream resto truck the other day and some of them even had CHROME glove boxes (nothing like some well-maintained chrome, one of the reasons I like the front of the XLT so much...)

This discussion comes up at least once a month and what always ends up happening is the Lariats think they drive the best, the FX4 owners think they have the most offroad capable machines and the XLTs get ragged on. And thats leaving out the arguements about chrome bumpers, painted fender flares and whose @ss is more comfortable in the tan leather verse the black leather.
If you compare the base model of each then yes, big differences between them. But a fully loaded XLT has little difference from a FX4 loaded besides a little trim and some cheap tin foil skid plates. I admit the best thing about the FX4 is the instrument bezel but dont get wrapped up on the "rancho" shocks and skid plates that flew when the wind blows too hard. The bottom line is these are all the same trucks and a 4x4 XLT or Lariat has just as much offroad ability as the so called offroad FX4 (and that stock ability sucks). The primary difference is trim. My reason for an XLT was I knew this truck would be offroad, I didnt want a tan interior, I had leather and you sweat your ***** off in the summer, and I wouldnt pay the additional $2k for the FX4 for some fancy gauges, and shocks/skidplates that would be ripped off for my lift within the first year.
Dont get too wrapped up about which group you fall into, just buy the truck you like and fits your needs the best. My truck has the flares and it says "Offroad" below 4x4 on the side and people always ask me if I have some special edition Fx4. I always say, "No but this is how Fx4 should be marketed"
Anyways enjoy your rides, they are all pretty slick!
