Dealer's solution to vibration problem
 

First of all, if you do not have any vibrational problems and you are sick of hearing about them then don't read this; you knew from the title of the thread exactly what this post is about.

My vibrational problem started with around 100 miles on the odometer when between 50-70 mph. It is a shudder through out the cabin that only occurs when gas is applied. Coasting at those speeds creates now vibrations at all. The truck has been at the dealer for five days under analysis and a field service engineer has determined that the transmission is the problem. So with only 150 miles on the truck, a new transmission is being put in. Hope this works.

By the way, it is a 04' Scab 4x4 w/5.4L

The truck was assembled in Norfolk, VA and I think that the build date 06/15/04. I should also mention that the dealer said this was the first truck they had heard of with this problem. I just hope it works because I love the truck sans the vibrations.

if the dealer is saying your truck is the first that THEY have heard of with that problem, you should have went to a different dealership because basically what ur getting into is wasted time away from your truck..... Also note that production dates and where the truck was assembled has NOTHING to do with the Vibe..... theres trucks with diff vibes and build dates all over

thanks for the advice but I am not about to tell the dealership that they cannot put a new tranny in just so I can go to another dealership and start this **** over again. The problem was diagnosed by a Ford Field Service engineer and I'll take his advice.

thats fine to do my friend, i would do the same thing in your situation and take their advice, But also remember..... if i remember correctly a few people have already had the SAME thing done, and the Vibe then continued again after a few hundred miles...... So if you end up getting the Vibe one again, THEN find another dealer who has had people coming in with the same problem, more than likely a dealer that has more trucks with the exact same problem is going to be on top of it more

Don't believe the FSE, mine said the vibe was normal and would not do anything when my truck only had 2,000 miles. The DSB's independent engineer disagreed and Ford had to buy back my truck. Some trucks have it some don’t. My XLT Scab 5.4 was made in VA 10/03. I noticed the vibration on the way home after buying the truck. 20,000 miles later just as bad and I’m waiting on my paper work to finish up with Ford. The more trucks Ford has to buy back the better. Maybe then they will fix a flawed design.

That's very interesting that they are going to replace your tranny.

The latest I've heard is that the culprit is the rack and pinion. Someone on this board or another (I forget) mentioned they took their truck to the dealer for service. The dealer replaced the rack and pinion with one that has a different part number than the one from factory and that fixed that person's vibe issue.

It's hard to say if it is that for sure b/c his could of been a different problem for that person, however, I do believe it has to do with the rack and pinion b/c many have had different parts replaced with no success.

I've heard of people replacing their tires, wheels, rear-end, gears, driveshaft and nothing. It seems logical that the problem lies in the rack and pinion.

Just my .02!

Steering Wheel nibble or shimmy and the driveline vibration are two different types of vibrations and are not connected.

Is there a known for either of these? A known cause and fix?

Thanks for the input guys. I hope the tranny is indeed the problem. I would think they are reasonably sure just because of the cost for a new transmission. I'll let you guys know hopefully in a couple of days.

I've heard that the problem was solved on some vehicles by replacing the BFG tires.

Problem Solved
 

After 14 days in the shop, a new transmisson and two new drive shafts, my truck is cured and is completely vibration free (knock on wood). Although I will keep my fingers crossed, my truck and I are buddies again! :beers:

Picked up my truck from the dealer last night. My vibration is a slight one at 55-60. they found ssm 18161 (on OASIS) for vibration at 45+. No solution at this time. still working on it. I'm not sure what OASIS is or an ssm is, but it sounded official. Obviously they didn't do a thing.
