2004 f150 throttle & brakes

I've got the dreaded poor throttle response. Will mods to the computer and exhaust void my warranty?

Also, my truck feels like the parking brakes are still on when I'm starting from a dead stop. the truck just doesn't seem to coast very well. Fells just like it would if you didn't release your parking brakes all the way and tried to take off. Dealer says no problems. Any suggestions?

You should definately put a muffler on, that will help. I know when you do anything from the cat back your ok, but anything before that will void your warrenty. I Would also definately get an air intake, preferablly airaid. This makes a huge difference. I figure that if I need to take my truck in then I would just put the old intake back on. Its pretty easy. Also you should do the Superchip 1714. Also if you take your truck in, all you do is plug it in and reset back to stock conditions. All of that should make a big difference.

bc, I think from the sounds of your description what you are experiencing could be the the bad throttle response that seems to afflict all the '04s. The '04s have a "throttle by wire" design that allows the engineers to play with the way the throttle is opened. Typically, when taking off from a standing start, there is a noticable delay between pushing the accelerator and something happening. Depending on how "in tune" you are with vehicles this delay might be somewhere between very annoying and not even noticable. Some owners don't even notice the problem until it is brought to their attention.

I have the Superchips 1714 tuner and just one of the things it does is to help reduce the TBW delay. I would recommend this device to everyone with a '04 F150.

An example of one of the good applications of TBW is in backing up. The designers increase the travel of the accelerator (decrease the sensitivity) when backing. This make it much easier for most people to back up slowly.

basscatchr...Unless I drempt (is that a word?), I just read a post the other day describing your "parking brake" feeling problem and it was fixed by his dealer. Problem in the differential (I think)

I couldn't tell you what thread it was, but it was with-in the last 7 days.

I don't think your problem is normal.... I can coast for a long time. (I've ran out of gas a few times :o ). I feel no sensation of any binding or braking, just smoooth coasting. Until I have no more kinetic energy left ( physics majors, correct me if I have the wrong energy)

Hope this helps...

I have no drag either when coasting to a stop . But if you want a tune that will suprise you get the SUPERCHIPS tuner. It will void Warranty if they find it and you have engine problems. So you must reload stock tune before going into dealer. Quick down loads. But mods like exhaust will not void warranty they do this on some trucks themselfs.

Crap!...lol I can hardly get mine to STOP rolling. This thing rolls/coasts better than anything I've ever been in. I sometimes even turn off the overdrive so the engine brakes the truck a little instead of me having to ride the brakes all the time (when going 60 or less).

There's been reports of the emergency brake cable being installed wrong (not seating well, which causes the rear brakes to drag slightly...sometimes causing vibration or shudder). Don't know if yours is like that...it's just something I heard on another site from a honest dealer in NY (one I bought my truck from).

thanks for the info guys. I'm thinking that I will be getting exhaust and the tuner. I was curious though, will the cumputer store how many times the stock program is changed? Say if I program it, then have problems with the engine, put the stock program back, will the dealer know that it was programmed and then re-programmed??

I'm not sure why my truck doesn't coast very well. I haven't been successful in finding the thread where people have fixed the problem.

Does the Superchips/Diablo tuner then require higher octane gas?

No, they will not no that it has been programmed if you return it to stock before taking it to the dealer. A power loss code does show up in the computer after reprogramming. However, the SuperChips 1714 tuner erases all the codes after it's done programming.

The SuperChips 1714 tuner does not require high octane gas. It gives you the option of continuing to use 87 octane as one of its three built-in programs. The other two built-in tunes, "Towing Perf" and "High Perf", do require high octane gas.

What benefits are gained through the non-higher-octaine program?

Holy Crap basscatchr!!!

That took me a lot of searching, but I knew I read something about it....

Hope this relates to the problem you feel...

My truck was built at K.C. in 10/03. My PCM is version BME9. I have about 2k miles on it and just had the dealer change the oil. It feels broken in and powerful. However, the throttle lag and odd shift points are still there. The dealer also overhauled the 3.73 LS. That helped a lot. Before it almost felt like the EBrake was on. LOL Anyway, I still feel there are some PCM issues and Ford has newer updates than BME9. Does anyone know what the current revision is?

Read here -> LINK

Particularly the paragraphs near the bottom that start with the words "Power gains".

Due to agreements with the vendors, actual prices cannot be discussed here in the forums. In order to get the discount for F150Online.com members, you must call Troyer Performance and place a phone order. You cannot get the discount through ordering on the web. Trust me, it's a good discount (I have one of the 1714 tuners)! Use the link I posted above and click on their home link or contact link, whichever one shows you their phone number.
