Exhaust and Air intake advice
Exhaust and Air intake advice
I have recently ordered my 2005 F150 KR 5.4L 4x4. I am wanting to get some increased performance.
Air intake I was thinking Volant or Airaid.
Exhaust maybe a magnaflow or flowmaster dual exhaust.
Any thoughts advice/suggestions.
Thanks

i saw noone gave u some answers .. probabbly because it has been discussed many times before... I have the K&N FIPK and love it .... I plan on installing a custom single in dual out magnaflow exhaust (catback only) at a local muffler shop ...
other than that I think is a matter of preference and tastes ...

I would stick with either AirRaid or Volant (or wait for the AF1). As of now, those are the only C.A.R.B. legal intakes. K&N doesnt make the FIPK for the 04-05 5.4L yet. They do make the off road version though. Some other choices for intake are True Flow or CGS. Not sure of the legal status on these, but they are said to give good performance gains.
I personally went with AirRaid. It is quite loud though under WOT and other heavy rpm uses. But its the perfect sound for me, kinda like the old 4 barrel carbs.
As for exhaust, hopefully some here will post pics for you. Do you want stock location cat back, dual rear, side front exit, etc?
My exhaust goes on monday or tuesday (depending on when the tailpipe come in). On my 04 FX4 I went with a custom setup, costing about 350 for everything installed. I am using a Ravin Z33 muffler (LOUD!) w/ a side front exit design like the Lightnings dual tip in front of rear tire.
If you are looking to do a custom setup, I would reccomend checking into Ravin mufflers (www.goravin.com) and look at their Z55 muffler for a nice deep tone without the resonance and drone inside the cab. Another option if you are looking for the loud flowmaster sound is IMCO (www.grabtheperformance.com). Unicque design that gives a deep exhaust note.
I personally am staying away from Flowmaster and Magnaflow, for the simple fact that that is what most go with. I want an exhaust note on my truck that few have. You wont get that with Flowmaster or Magnaflow. But both have great sound (at opposite ends of the spectrum).
Hope this helps.
