How hard is it to change the center of the grille? Any tips?

How hard is it to change the center section of the grill....the honeycomb part. I have a black 04 Lariat with the goldish grilleand I want to put a black center out of a XLT or maybe a FX4 in it (anybody have one for sale?) I looked at it briefly and it looks like it basicaly snaps in, but it looks like the snaps have locks on them....how do you get the original one out without braking anything?

I changed my Lariot grill to an FX4 grill. I purchased the entire FX4 insert on eBay, painted it E4 (bright red) and painted the background grill AG (Arizona Beige). The background grill is attached by a lot of clips. You need to very gently pry OPEN each clip one at a time ... go slow and take your time.

Grille Mod

Someone asked to see pics of the mod. I wish they were better pics, but my camera is old and is only 0.8 megapixels. The sunlight also plays tricks on the color. It is the Ford Bright Red E4(not General Lee orange).

Before

After

Hope this helps anyone who wants to do the same mod. I am going to finish off this mod with an Arizona Beige bottom grille. Final pics to follow.

I like the Arizona Beige painted in the background on the grille. Nice idea.

Do you have visors on the doors? Painted red, did you order that way or paint them. If order where from?

Nice Truck.

Most of my aftermarket "toys" come from a local place that sells all of the standard type truck related accessories. The vent visors are the standard tape on type and have had no trouble with them staying in place or the paint chipping off. The dealer has his own painter that will paint off-the-shelf items BEFORE I purchase them using the factory ford colors (i.e. E4 and AG for my truck). Comes in real handy for the items like my vent visors and LEER tonneau cover. I purchase the exact Ford paint (E4 for Bright Red) on-line and paint some of the pieces myself that I didn't buy from my parts dealer. I can't wait to paint the lower grilles (i.e. the 2 pieces on the truck and the insert I purchased) to match the Arizona Beige bumper color.

I painted the bar grill myself. I purchased the entire FX4 grill on eBay for a steal of a deal ($33 included shipping). The whole grill unbolts with 4 large bolts and about 6 small trim bolts along the hood line. I purchased the E4 Bright Red and AG Arizona Beige Ford paint on-line (I have the web address if U R intereseted) and the clear coat. I removed the back 6 grill inserts (one piece) and painted it Arizona Beige, and reinserted. This way I can still go back to the stock Lariat trim in about 5 minutes.
