Please help me decide exhaust??

I've read over the forum and found many ideals about my exhaust, but my truck is brand new and I want to make the right decision. I want a very deep sounding muffler and exhaust out the back with chrome tips, and should I have a local muffler shop do all the work or is it better to order a kit and do it yourself, my local shop will install a flowmaster and duals with tips for $300.
Thanks for the help in advance...I work at the truck plant in kentucky.

This is what my experience has shown me:

Magnaflow sounds great, but not very aggressive. No drone on the highway, but you do know it's there when you get on it.

Flowmaster is far more aggressive, but you also get drone on the highway, or when cruising. They do have different variations from Flowmaster though too.

The difference is whether you want to be heard all the time, or only at WOT.

As far as install, it depends on whether you can find a kit that exits the way you would like. If so, go with a kit for better bends. If not, have the shop do it. I had mine done at a local shop to achive the exit I wanted, and I have had no problems at all.

Hope this helps

Hey fordworker you can save alot of money by checking your local exhaust shops on what name brand they sell. I had a IMCO performance installed at a local shop for $350 out the door. I didnt get a sticker for my window but it sounds great . I definitly here it on accelleration and slightly at 65 mph cruise. The muffler is T304 Stainless and pipes are aluminized its all welded in no clamps and very clean. I'm at C.S.P. also

4.6 with true duals 2.5" pipe, 16x2.5" tips out the sides. so loud it gets me in trouble it "cackles" all the way up to 60 with slow accelleration. and a drone at highway speeds. it gets pretty loud, loud enuf to get me in a lil trouble when i get too brave. Well hope this tells u what not to do if u wanna be a law abiding citizen.

I also have the Flowmaster SIDO catback on my 2004 Lariat. I like it but wish I would have seen this site before I had it installed at the dealership when I bought it. I have no complaints about sound of the Flowmaster and I am picky. But I would have probably gone with the Magnaflows for the added torque. I would recomend that you talk to Mike Troyer at Troyer Performance before you by an exhaust system. If I had this little bit of information I would have probably switched.

Check out Ravin mufflers at www.goravin.com you might like their Z55 muffler. Great low rumble with little drone. I am doing their louder Z33 muffler on my FX4.

I just installed the borla rear exit catback on my 04 lariat scab. Great fit with slight mod. I have 2 install tips, my stock pipe had a locking pin on the pipe attached to the muffler. You have to either twist & pull on the muffler or pry the end of the pipe over the pin. I did the later. I had to cut 7"off the stock front pipe. I used the borla front pipe that the directions say is made for the screw. There was no problem with spare tire clearance. They seemed to have tucked the pipe crossing the spare higher so it is not as visible. Like I said great fit & perfect sound. Quality product.

I chose the Aeroturbine muffler with dual chrome tips out the sides. New technology for mufflers in an other wise stagnant R&D industry.

It has a deep, mellow groan while cruising, but not annoying. When I stomp on it, whether with 5000lb trailer or not, it growls!

My muffler shop gives a 30 day sound guarantee that if I didn't like the way it sounded, they will install a Magnaflow (free labor) down from the Aeroturbine. That way I will get the gas milage benefits from the AT and a sound quality from the MFlow. Never even considered the MFlow.

I have the 1714 tuner and am *patiently* waiting for the Airforce One intake.

Check out the site and give it serious consideration:
