MPG 04 Screw 4x4
hey i got 19.6 mpg once on a 300 mile trip with a 35 mph tail wind......then on the way back into the same wind i got 14.1 mpg.....all highway.....so.....if he only drives when the wind is blowing the same direction he is going i can believe his #'s.....
The best I've been able to get (over at least 150 miles of driving) here in the northeast US is 19.5 mpg. That's strictly highway, with a relatively light foot (kept at or below 70 mph) AND the 93 Octane tune from Superchips.
I've got a 4X4 Screw and am getting about 12.5 in the city and about 15 on the highway. My guess is that the city is lower than most because I spend a lot of time sitting in a running truck and stuff like that - kills you every time.

so obviously your getting better mileage on highway when the flow of traffic is going. Now 65mph on major roads is good.... but studies even showed that if you go say 75mph, you lose 10-15% gas mileage, and more if you keep going up in speed. Thats why JohnandDar got good mileage on that trip keeping it below 70mph
lol... now me, i can't keep my heavy foot off the pedal!

What rpm does everyone shift at? I keep mine under 3000 when shifting, and don't drive much over 70 when on the highway. With the new 5.4 and automatic transmission, I don't even see the need to go over 3000 90% of the time. I still get up to legal highway speeds before I merge and no one is pulling away from me during normal city driving. I don't have any problems getting 17-18 mpg on a regular basis. This is running 87 octane with no mods. The truck is a 04 x-cab with the 5.4 and 3.73 gears. My worst tank was 16.6 mpg pulling a 2000 utility trailer, the best was 20 pulling nothing. I don't doubt anyone about getting 16 mpg or better. I am using US gallons for calculations. Just dividing the number of miles by the amount of gas used.

I have 04 FX4 crewcab w/ 3.73 at the rear, I am avg. 16.5 mpg. This is based on 60 freeway( 70 MPH)/40 back road (40 MPH). My best was 18 mpg and worst was 14.2 mpg. Aside from our truck variations, mpg has lot to do with driver's habit too.

So all you get is about 12 with all those mods? Which setups are you running? Did your mileage go down with them?

For exhaust, I'm running SIDO custom / Flowmaster Super 40. I installed all the stuff myself. From cat to Muff I'm using a 3" stainless. From Muff to end i'm using 2.5" stainless with 4" tips.
My mileage has gone down about 3-5 mpg since these mods. It could be that I'm hammering it all the time though as well.
I don't really have anything to compare it to because I order the intake stuff before I even had my truck and I put the exhaust on the same day I drove it home from the dealer.
I'm just wondering if the underpully's or the tuner can help with the gas.

Hoe do you like the Super 40? I am considering that, a Ravin muff, or IMCO muff with dual out in front of the rear tire. Is it loud? Cause thats important to me. lol
The only other thing I am doing is adding the 1714, so I will let you know if it helps mileage at all. It should be here next week!
