They are after markets keys, but the ACE hardware by me has both the PATS and non-PATS keys.

Have nto had a problem, and it is better then the 45.00 my stealership wants to cut a PATS key ( no programming included for that Rap-Pillage-Plunder cost ).

I really don't have a problem with the logo not being on there, but my keys do not look like any above, they are like the blue oval key, but this is engraved into the black, not a raised gel coat emblem on the key.

I don't believe the blue oval keys are available any longer. Discon'd. I tried pretty hard to come up with a couple and struck out left and right.

The main reason that I ordered an extra key is because, if you loose one, you still need two to program a third. So, in short, loose one and you'll only have one. Buy one while you've got two and loose one, you can still program a third.

You only need 2 programmed keys to add another.

Owners Manual starting on page 108. I did this, got one extra key the day I picked up the truck, and then added in another about 3 weeks later ( the first one at mom and dad's as a BU ).

Are you thinking of the Remote Entry Transmitters ( starting on page 101 ).
The Remote entry transmitters you have to programm al them at the same time, they entry into programming mode erases all the previously entered fobs, and you have to put them all back in.

I have 2 keys plus a third in the car starter module so if I want to program another key I need all 3 keys.

Just the 2 keys to add in what would be the 4th key.

If that is the case, then why would it not program? I had to go to the dealer and they called someone who said that without the 3rd programmed key, it wasn't possible to program a 4th unless they did it.

Got me why it did not program the 4th key. I know I added a 3rd key ( dropped off at mom and dad's house, 33 miles away ) and then got one from the Industrial ACE by my house and prgrammed it in. There is a max of 8 keys total ( including the PATS bypass for a remote starter ).

The purpose of being able to add a key with only 2, is to make sure the Valet does not do it while you are parked, and when you have 3, if you loose one, you can add another key with the 2 you have. I forget what happens when the limit is hit though. Think of it this way, if you have 3 keys, and loose 1, now what happens every time you want to add a key ? Take it to the dealer ?

The OEM keys are from Strattec. Ford made a change and removed the little blue emblem which was a metal oval with blue paint and it was stuck on with 2-sided tape.

The original manufacturer (strattec) does not have any more keys with the blue metal oval. They produce the new key for Ford which just has an engraved Ford logo. It does look like a cheap imitation but it is the real OEM manufacturer and the key they started shipping with the late model 04s to current.

Your local locksmith probably has strattec keys with the black engraved ford emblem. Don't worry, the one you get locally is the real key. If you buy it on ebay, it is the real original OEM key as long as it says strattec on the parts bag.

later,
Heath

i'll toss my 2cents in. The dealership is not the only place you can get your key programed. Call your local lock smiths. I had 1 key programmed for 70 bucks, and then 40 bucks for the next key. (bought the truck with only 1 key) All of the keys work fine. And it was cheaper then the dealership who wanted to charge me 130 for 1 key, and then 20 for each additional key..fuggers!!!

Not sure about making a new key with 2 orginals though. It's in the manual, so I would think that you could make a 3rd following what it says.

Point is, call around, there is always someone cheaper out there who can do it for less then what the dealerships charge!!!

I went ahead and ordered a third key today from ebay, less than $20 shipped. I figure it can't hurt to have an extra around, and beats the hell out of paying $100+ in a pinch if you lose one.

Quick question though. I assume I can take this to have cut at my local hardware store, correct? No special equipment needed?

Correct. Any place that cuts keys can do it. But, since you just paid nearly $20 for one, I'd make sure to go to a trusted place ... know what I mean? I don't want some 16 year old at Wal-Mart ruining my key. You only get one shot at cutting it. Personally, I went the most well known locksmith / key shop in town. They said they'd replace my key if they cut it wrong, etc. Of course, the works just fine.

Appreciate the answer to my dumb question. I'll make sure the local shop in town here does it right.

It is about time I got a new key though. My current one is tore up pretty good. Looks like it belongs to a POS truck, instead of a good lookin F150.
