stereo swap

my '04 came with a single cd/cassette.

got not much use for the casseette player... (lost so much blood negotiating the sale price i did not have the strength to haggle over options, accessories, etc....)

has anyone tried to 'trade in' the stereo for a 6cd changer?
reckon the dealer might take my 1-day old stereo out and give me credit toward popping in the 6cd stereo?

or other recommendations for a stereo upgrade? cheers..

Keep asking around here. A few people have replaced their 6 disc players and might make you a deal.

good idea. thanks.

while i'm at it, i can unbolt those black tubular step rails and put them on the 'market'... (assuming their bolted on...)

i don't use it getting in, and find myself kind of awkwardly stepping over it on the way out...

You may want to mention that in the "Other Aftermarket" forum on here also.

Ostuni ... I took out the stock 6CD player the minute I got home from the dealership (because I already owned an aftermarket unit). If you want to purchase it, its up for grabs (currently listed in the "classified").

let me know.

thanks. hopefully they'll be sort of 'hot-swappable' and i could just yank out the cd/cassette and stick the 6cd in its place... let me research that and the costs, etc. and get back to you...

yes, it is definitely "hot swappable" ... just a wiring harness and the center console couldn't be easier to remove.

they are definitely hot swapable. The wiring harness is the same. It's rather easy to do. Shouldn't take you more then 3 or 5 minutes to pop off the front cover ( near the a/c controls ) and to remove the antanae cord and the wireharness. Then it'll take about 2 minutes to hook up and put back together.

thanks guys. but did notice when you choose interior options while 'building' a vehicle you have two separate options: a 6cd changer, and a am/fm stereo w/6cd changer? probably being extra dumb, but am assuming that what r has got is the complete unit with am/fm, etc. and that will fit in the same bay as my am/fm/cd/cassette unit?

There is an Audiophile unit for sale right in this forum (before it gets moved to the classified section).

If I were you, I'd jump all over that.
