Adding a sub to the Audiophile

I have an 04 FX4 Screw with the audiophile sound system, but I want a bit more bass. Would it be possible to add a sub on the opposite side under the seat and next to the stock sub enclosure?

Could I fit a 10"? Would it be possible to wire into the stock system?

Thanks!

Your better off replacing the stock sub with a nice single 10" with decent power. I've been holding out for the JL Audio Stealthbox. I had one in my last vehicle and I'm sold that they are the best solution for limited space situations while retaining that signature JL Audio sound & quality.

Adding onto the sub-par factory woofer still means you have that muddy bass. If your hell-bent of keeping it, trying adding a crossover that filters out the upper bass range to the smaller 8" driver, while sending the lower frequencies to the larger 10". Even that doesn't make much sense to do... just scrap the factory box!

It was supposed to be released mid-July. I just sent another e-mail to a guy at JL, should get a reply tomorrow.

ya I lvoe JL... Maybe I should just save my pennys for that. I just want to save some money. New trucks are exspensive! I know the stock isnt the best, but I would be happy with just adding a new sub next to it... I think. lol.

Realisticly, would I save that much money by keeping the stock enclosure???

No. You wouldn't be saving a single penny. You'll still need to purchase a new sub & amp! Might as well do it right and replace the factory!

Alrighty, the boys at JL say production isn't quite ready for the new stealthboxes, and the latest word is the end of the month. That means we won't be seeing the boxes in showrooms for at least 4-6 weeks.

I have a 2004 FX4. I did not notice a sub box under any seat. Do all FX4's come with the Audiophile system? Where is the sub? Amp?

No.....they are not standard equipment...Its an upgrade option....the amp and sub are both located under the driver side back seat....the amp is mounted on the sub inclosure....already had to have mine replaced under warranty....i also am thinking of replacing mine with an aftermarket sub and amp..

Is this what they refer to as the audiophile system?

if I have the 6-cd changer, is there a way to add the subwoofer and amp to upgrade me to the audiophile? Is it worth it?

Not really worth it. The audiophile is not only the subwoofer, but upgraded front speakers as well. If you want better sound, aftermarket will get you there. It may cost a little more, but the quality will crush factory nearly every time. Of course, if you just listen to elevator music or EEEK.. country music, then just stick with what you got - nothing will help you.

plus you have to have the audiophile head unit, which is also a 6cd changer, but has the extra plug on the back for the subwoofer output.

Main thing to check first is to look under your driver's side rear seat and find the slit in the carpet. Reach in that slit and see if a plug is there. If you have a plug, then can plug in the amp/sub. No plug, means no easy way to hook up the amp.

I already was going to try this upgrade, but my FX4 did not have the plug under the rear seat. Others seem to have a plug under their carpet though...

That’s what I did, I added a pair of JL Audio tweeters in the front doors, built a sub box for under the passenger side rear seat which houses a JL Audio subwoofer, re-located the jack and put a Alpine base amp under the passenger side front seat. About $350. buck in material by time you are done with all the hardware and everything.
