the 04 f150s have a wire set that connects to a small housing on the rear view.... anyone know what that is?

That’s for high beams so they don’t blind you from behind. It produces a green tint that buffers the high beam head light you see from the mirror.

cheers. (me and the sales guy were guessing it was the sensor that turns on the headlights at dusk...)

The light sensor is with the flashing red light on the left top of the dash.

i dont have that on my truck. the wires just go to a housing(looks like it would do something, since i dont have the auto mirror tint feature.

that's a good theory...

will crack the owner's manual to see if there's any clue, and i'll post a picture of this thing asap so we'll see if we're talking about the same device...

could be a radio beacon for those black un helicopters to track and monitor us...

if i suddenly disappear from this forum and this thread is mysteriously purged, tell my story....

I'm pretty sure that black box is for the compass. If it's the thing I'm thinking of there should be a little button on the side so that you can adjust the compass reading for your latitude........

it's all in the manual.

that makes the most sense, but, no button. and according to the manual (attm), you calibrate the compass from the menu on the stereo system?

will post a photo soon. this thing is rectangular, about the size of a large remote key box. attached to the rear-view bracket...

Your right. Just checked the service manual and the black box is the compass module. The button on the top left is to reset the zone.
