i have a megellen platanuim handheld and i fabricated a mount out of a cell phone holder, this might not be what you are looking for but it is alot cheaper and it is portable and it works great
Wouldn't a GPS system mounted up there be nearly impossible to utilize with the rail system? It seems like you'd have to be looking nearly straight up to see it...
Like bigtruck mentioned, I too mounted in a handheld GPS which works well for what I need (or really don't need -- just like to have)...
Long story short, I added a cig lighter below the steering column and concealed a cig lighter power cord so that it's not zipping through batteries... It's a eTrex Legend from Garmin.

Sure, I'd love to have one of those elaborate, turn-by-turn types of systems but, the pocketbook can't handle that much cash for that type of mod.... This works for me...

I purchased the TomTom GPS for my Palm T3 and it works great in my F150. The suction cup mount attaches to the ashtray, the receiver is bluetooth so no wires and I plug the T3 into the cigarette lighter if I'm taking a long trip.
