Mudguards question

Hi,

Question for you off-roaders. Is it better to not get the molded guards due to trouble breaking them or worse if you go off roading? Should I get the flaps that would just move out of the way? Do they both work well? I don't do a lot of off-roading but I would hate to limit myself or where I could go due to lower ground clearance.

Thanks!

Steve

I have molded mudflaps and they are the best money I ever spent on anything period. on my front wheels, my sway bar and frame would bottom out at the same point my mudflaps would. on the back wheels, I suppose they could impact something. The exit angle would have my bumper bottoming out before my flaps would hit. Only possible damage to them I could envision is driving over a large downed tree or something with a similar steep drop, but my frame would bottom out on it before the tree would get to the rear wheels. Then again, it's very early in the morning and I need to get to bed. Molded flaps look SOOOOOOOOO much better than the soft rubber flappers; even if I do rip them off somehow, I'll reinstall another set somehow in a heartbeat

Another thing--if you do any towing, make sure you pull your ball mount out before playing in the dirt/rocks--that's where you will usually bottom out first....

Depends on what you are getting in to. If you are a mud bogger then you can be sure those flaps are toast when you hit the pit. With most guys with new trucks they only go offroading (serious offroading) once in a great while so do what you want for the street, and worry about the flaps offroad later.
