Interesting... this is common?

This is the first time I've heard of this problem...

Bummer Brew... the good news is that it's probably an easy fix.

Well A few calls were made and heres the outcome. Im told to do the job the "right" way, they will have to repaint the entire side of the bed. Theres no way they can just do that little spot and make it match. Especially with the Yellow. My concern is that even if they do this, after a year its not gonna match anyway. What do you guys think? Ive never had to have anything repainted so Im a little worried. Im sure they can get it to match, but will it match a year down the road? Ive seen some real crappy paint jobs. Or I was thinking maybe have them just fix the little spot and then when the new decal is applied, they can move it a 1/2 inch back so the red color of the X covers it up. What do you think?

Now I have to go read fordcountrys thread on his bubble.

No way I'd repaint the entire side of the bed for that little blister.

No way.

They need toi just cut that decal around the blister (so it doesn't peel when they remove the decal, fix the paint on that dime size spot and then put the decal back on.

I can't believe a dealer is telling you this unless there is something I am REALLY missing from the pics.

I don't buy doing the whole side either. A good shop can blend in the paint so you'll never know it's there. And not match?! It's a friggen PPG (maybe) factory blend for pete's sake! Duh!!! I could be wrong.... I'm not a body man.

Yea, no way would I paint the entire side. Who ever said that doesn't know paint. You may have to find another dealer that has a knowlegeable staff in the body department. With the paint services offered nowadays, like PPG, they can computer match any paint and get it dead on, especially the yellow. And to top it all off your truck is not that old to see any fading. I do quite a bit of painting myself building cars and bikes for show.
It really depends on who you are talking to Mgr., service writer, or tech.
The tech probably knows more.

I think the reason they want to paint the whole side is because they can’t blend clear coat, it will stick out like a sore thumb. Clear coat has to be done in panels that have a definitive separation to look right and not show a seam. The bubble will be fixed and repainted but then the whole panel will be re-clear coated.

It will leave a ridge that can’t be sanded out or buffed out.

I would just let them re-paint the entire panel. They have computer machines that can match your factory paint perfectly you wont notice a difference and they will re-clearcoat the entire panel.

NO..its not fixed yet, and thank god for that. Since I started my new job I have been way to busy to even wash my truck let alone take it to the dealer to have it fixed. And thank god I didnt take it and insist on fixing that one spot. While lookjng at it tonight, I noticed that the bubble is still there, only it flattened out, and two..yes I said two (2) more bubbles have appeared. One under the F in the sticker and one a little further down the truck bed in the paint alone ( not in the sticker). I guess its time to make the appointment and have the entire side repainted. Since this is going to take a few days I should be able to get a loaner car right?

bubbling paint

HI, I hate to tell you this but ford is having big time problems with their paint jobs. I have a 2000 F150. I had to have two different spots painted while under warrenty. niw my hood is bubbling and Ford refuses to paint it with no cost to me. The auto body man at the dealers said Ford has tried to correct this problem over the years but hasnt succeeded yet. The paint does not adhere to the body that well and Ford does not apply the correct thickness either, they do very cheap paint jobs at the factory. chances are you will find more and more spots on your beautiful truck as time goes by.
