Arrow New Brake Pads?

Has anybody replaced their front brake pads?

If so, did you find some that create less dust?

My front wheels are in a constant state of blackness.

Suggestions please.

I have 4000miles on my truck and I'm starting to get grooved rotors already. It is less than two months old. I'm going in for a check up soon and I will ask them to change the rotors and pads and see if this decreases the dirty wheels. I know this doesn't answer your question but I too share you problem.

Get some Porterfield kevlar front brake pads, I already installed some on my truck. It eliminated the dust. Here's where I got mine, great price w/shipping:

How difficult are they to install? I've never rebled or done any brake work before.

no need to bleed when replacing pads. Just pull the caliper, replace the pads and bolt it back together.

I'd look at your local AutoZone. $90 for pads is pretty strong. You can buy the high-end carbon-metallic pads which are very low dusting for a lot less and they're lifetime warranted.

Yup...I've got 900 miles and the front rotors are grooved. Must be either very hard pads or very soft rotors.

Here's more than a mouthful, but I gotta say it 'cuz if my rather decorated experience with brakes....................

#1.) For about the last 10 years, rotors are not what they were. Rotors are basically good for one use & that is all. Rotors warp more easily these days and once warped, stay warped!!! You can have them turned, but it will be a short-term solution. (usually feeling warpage again within 5,000 miles)

#2.) '04s appear to have an unusual problem with noise and dusting. This is COMPLETELY contrary to the previous generation F150s. Believe me, I'd much rather have an '04 but previous generation oem brakes are good/hard rotors and medium-softness and VERY low dusting pads.

Why the heck the formula changed, but it did.

Now.................with that said, I recommend the following with one exception.........

After battling various brake pad/rotor combos on my Camry, I happened to stumble upon a combo that works really well.

UBP (Universal Brake Parts) rotors
and
Carbon Metallic (AutoZone's top-line) pads.

The pads aren't necessarily *cheap-cheap* but they really aren't expensive either. As for the rotors, they were DEFINIteLY cheap for my Camry, but have no idea if they're even made by UBP for the F150 (and more importantly the '04). But.......I know what has been the best combination so far on my Camry.

At the very least, I think I'd have to give the Carbon Metallic pads a thumbs up as I had tried just about every other pad all the way up the ladder from Raybestos (yes, even the QS ceramics) and the Carbon Metallic tops them all!!!!!!!!!

Yes, That's all my cars have run for quite a few years. I think I paid $40 an axle for the front pads on both of my previous cars. I haven't called on the F150 yet, but the dust is starting to **** me off so it won't be long and I'm not spending $100 for pads.

I'd spend $100-$150 for cross drilled and vented rotors if someone made them. Had them on all my Corvettes and the Porsche 911 and they're geat. Never worry about warping. These rotors on the F150 are very soft and will probably warp quickly.
