My Superchips 1714 saga
My Superchips 1714 saga
Ordered a Superchips 1714 way back on July 27th. They were supposed to be shipping out on the 29th. It did and I had it shipped next day so I could have it NOW. Received it on July 30th.
Promptly tried to put the program in my truck. No way, Jose. The tuner gave me an E-43 code saying that my stock program was not stock. Called the place where I bought it and explained the situation. She asked for my phone number and said she would call me back. No call the rest of that day (Friday) so I had to wait til Monday. No call then either so I called back and asked what was up. She gave me the number to Superchips and told me to call them. Called them and explained the situation. They told me to ship it back to them and they would fix it and ship it back next-day air. Shipped it to them that day and they received it on August 3rd so I figured a day or two and it would be shipped back. On the 5th I called and asked what was up. The guy on the other end said "it takes a few days" and then it would be shipped back next day. For the next couple of weeks I got a bunch of different stories as to when it would be fixed/shipped back. Then on the 26th I called again for the umpteenth time to find out what was going on. The guy said he would check it out and get back with me. About ten minutes later a different guy called me back and explained my dilema. It seems my computer code had one corrupted bit or byte so the tuner wouldn't recognize it as stock. He said he would send a new tuner and to check for any diagnostic codes before I tried to retune. The new tuner arrived on September 1st. I checked for DTC's and there were none so I tried to tune. E-43 code. Program not stock. Called up Superchips again. Got a real nice guy that really seemed to want to help me. At this point my only alternative, if I wanted to have tuner that worked with my truck, was to ship my computer to them and have them try to fix my stock program. But he told me to wait and call after Labor Day because they were getting ready for Hurricane Frances. Waited til Wednesday the 8th to call. He gave me a return authorization number and said I could ship my computer and tuner whenever I wanted. He said I might want to wait til after Hurricane Ivan passed. I promptly shipped it that afternoon, next day air. Called Thursday to find out the status and he told me it was all set and being shipped back. Received it back this morning at 10 am. Put the computer back in the truck and it started fine. Changed the program to 87 octane program, no problem. So after six weeks I finally have a tuner that works with my truck. The guy at Superchips said they have never seen this problem before. Wouldn't you know that I would be the one to have it.

RED WING NUT,
What an ordeal. I'm glad everything has finally been resolved. I'm sure that between the demand for the new MicroTuners AND the issues they have meeting up with all of the PCM codes AND all of the hurricanes, the crew at SuperChips has been overwhelmed.
Let us know how you like the tuner programs on your truck.

Well since I had a full tank of 87 octane when I got my tuner and computer back, it will be a week or so before I can try out the 'hi performance' program. Right now I'm using the 87 octane program. Having used Superchips products in the past, I knew the benefits these tuners/chips give to automatic transmissions. The shifting is soooo much better. The throttle response is greatly improved. When driving along at moderate speeds, when you push down for some instant acceleration, it downshifts immediately, without hesitation. Before the Superchips programming, I could push down on the accelerator pretty hard and it would stay in the same gear and slowly accelerate. The shifting is crisp without being harsh. No slipping into the next gear. I don't find the crisp shifting to be objectionable. In fact, to me, it feels just right. I can understand why Ford wouldn't tune these trucks for the extra horsepower with the need to run premium fuel. But I can't understand why they wouldn't make the transmission work the way Superchips has programmed it to. There is nothing wrong with 'feeling' the truck shifting into the next gear.
nothing like poor customer service to steer me clear from a product. I have heard too many stories of this error code and it not working right. when you buy a product you expect it to work right when you get it not have to wait 6 weeks and have to ship it back and fourth before getting it right. I hope they payed to have it shipped to them. I probably won't buy this product at least untill a year or so after it is out and all the bugs are worked out of it. even then I might not after hearing about the poor customer service. it really bugs me when someone says they will check into something and get back to me and never dose. nothing like sitting arround the house waiting on a phone call all day when I could be out doing things and no one ever calling you back. I think I will see what else is out there.

What really ticked me off was in the beginning when I called the place that I bought it from and explained the situation and she said she would call me back and she didn't. This is a highly regarded vendor on these forums. Their customer service is supposed to be second to none
