Rust spots

Rust spots

Ther seems to be spots of rust on the rear cover of the differential housing. best I can remember this is normal and not anything to worry about. am I right?

The rear cover of the diff. on a new truck should still have black paint on it. You didn't really say how much rust or if it just some surface rust etc. Rust has to start somewhere at sometime depending to what degree the metal has been painted and also to what degree the metal has been exposed to the elements. This is not really a serious issue, the cover may not have painted well to start with or the corrosion process has been expedited for some reason. One thing for sure, one of these days you and many others will see a lot of rust on the underside of the carriage if it's left unprotected.
