Air Intake and Check engine light...
Air Intake and Check engine light...
Just installed an Airaid Intake system with the Poweraide Throttle body spacer on my 5.4L and now the Emissions Control Light is coming on (the one that looks like the engine). The light is staying on the entire time. The truck seems to be running fine but what could be the problem???
I installed everything by the book all the connections are in place does anyone have any ideas? Does it take a few days for the OBD to recognize new air adjustments?
Also my 1714 Super Tuner is going to be here in a day should I wait to utilize it or just do the upgrade to the OBD and see if that works? If I do use the 1714 will it save the data with the Check Engine Light on? I dont want to have problems in 2 years when I go to smog the truck.
Anyone else have this problem?

After installing my Airaid intake, i had the light come on for awhile.
I have the tuner, and ran the code, came up to be an emissions one...however, the fix that did it was to make sure your plastic tube is sitting all the way down on your throttle body. There are those two brackets on the side that hold it down, i had to bend them just a bit, to force more pressure on the tube and throttle body.
After that, i used my tuner, cleared all DTC codes, and the light has never come back on again.
All fixed.
I would wait for the tuner, check out the code, and reset the codes yourself....and see if it comes back on.
By the way, congrats on the airaid and tuner, the combo is ok if you use performance mode....but 87 octane mode you will only notice a slight difference...which is in shifting points etc...no power.
The lag people talk about were taken care of by my airaid....so the tuner didn't help that at all.
But, all in all...the tuner is a positive mark for me when in performance mode (required 91+ octane).
Tell me about the poweraid throttle body space...seems like a pretty easy install.
Did you install it the same time as the airaid intake? Is there clearance isues with the intake and hood?
THey are pretty cheap, but not sure on performance gains with them.

This may be just hearsay...but, i think you need to remove the cable for atleast a half hour to reset the computer?
hell, if 3 minutes don't work, let it sit for an hour or so unplugged, it should reset everything.

Still waiting on the 1714 Super Tuner should be here today or tommorow.
UPDATE:
I called Airaid seems they have different screws that are shorter on the MAS but didnt send them in my packaging (so I used the stock ones because there is nothing in the instructions about the different MAS screws) so airaid is sending some of the right ones out today. The stock screws are 1/4 inch longer and somehow block the air flow into the MAS. I was also told to leave the negative battery cable off for 1 hour to reset the computer.
I also checked the space between the throttle body and the airintake seat and it is seated down properly onto the throttle body.
The Poweraide Throttle Body Spacer was extremely easy to put on and I have had no problem with hood clearance. It makes a whistling sound when installed (not sure I like it yet or not). Dont know if it is saving me on gas mileage like it says but I can tell the truck is much quicker in throttle response when I give it some gas.
I immediately noticed a big difference in response from the engine with just the Airintake and TBS installed. I now just have to wait for the Super Tuner hopefully that will make it even snappier off the line.
The Throttle Body Spacer and the intake took about 50 minutes to install from start to finish the instructions were easy to follow and it took very little time to get it all in and running. The system definitly made a big difference in the engine even with the minor issue.
Thanks for the info everyone its much appreciated. I hope this will also help anyone installing the AIRAID intake system so they dont go through the same issues.

UPDATE II:
ALL FIXED! I added a couple of washers for spacers and put the MAS back on and WHAMMO the Engine Emission Light went off. The system over all was very easy to install and I am noticing a big difference off the line and overall punch to the engine even with the 36" Tires.
