Towing

Anybody tow big trailers with there F-150, just purchsed a 26ft enclosed snowmachine trailer thats 3800lbs. empty, so around 6000lbs fully loaded. I have an FX4 on order, supercab, 3.73, and am seriously reconsidering and going with a 05 f-250 with the powerstroke.

Let me know your ideas, opinions.

Thanks

You should be OK. Just don't push it too hard in the wind and keep the OD off. I pull a 27' travel trailer with a 12' slide out that weighs more than that. I pulled it with a 98 F-150 4x4 sc but the trucks gross weight was at it's max, but still OK. When I got my 03 I went with the 7700 model for that reason. I just got an 04 screw FX4 and took one to the weigh scales to weigh it first and then calculated my weights. With the 7200 lb gross on the 04 I'll be OK. You'll find you will go over on the trucks gross weight be fore you go over on combined weight. That's why I switched back to a traverl trailer from a fifth wheel in 1998 as the fifth wheels put a higher percentage of their weight in the back of the truck than a travel trailer. Hope this helps you out.

I used my 98 Lariat (w/3.73) to pull a 5th wheel and now it pulls my Jeep. Trailer is 1800lbs and jeep is about 4,000lbs. I live in mountain grades and this thing pull fine. Had no problem getting it up to 95 mph on a flat road, it towed smooth. I also had a tranny temp gauge on my 98, it never got hot. The 98 had 235 hp, the 04 has 300 hp. I will find out Sept 17th on how it pulls, looking forward to testing it out. Just make sure your F150 has the tow package.

I have the 5.4 liter 3.73, tow package, 04.

I have a 27 foot Jayco, with a dry weight of 5400 lbs, Loaded I would conservatively say it weighs 6000 lbs.

I have went to Orlando in February and Gettysburg in July.

To say that it towed lik an ox would be an understatement.

I maintained 65 mph going upgrades in the Smokies. I also maintained 9 mpg.

On my way to Mickey Mouse land, I found myself running 75mph at times.

I used to have a 99 F250 V10, and can say that this truck pulls just as well as that one.

Dude, I have a 04 FX4 5.4 with 3.73. My cousin has a F-250 7.3 diesel. I pulled my boat and trailer with both trucks and there is no comparsion to the diesel. If you are going to tow that heavy trailer, do yourself a favor and get the 250. I love my fx4, but it's not in the same ballpark with the 250 towing.
