Idle Miss
Idle Miss
Not trying to start a lemon law discussion, and I'm not trying complain.ust want to know if anyone else has this problem, and how it was fixed.
My truck idles at about 550 rpm's. It has a distinct miss, especially when it warms up.
I have taken it to the dealer, and was told it was normal.
I car pool, and my buddy has a 2004 truck, same as mine, and there is NO miss.
So my question is, has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did your dealer correct it?
TIA

I have a slight miss but with the electronics it really hard to say where it comes from. I had this with both other 150's this one is alot better as long as it doesn't miss on accelaration it will be ok never changed my mpg .
I work at a Ford dealership, a lot of times with the 5.4L motors an idle miss usually is caused by a coil or an air by-pass valve. Have your dealership run an ECC test on the vehicle, there my not be a hard code but probably is a trip code and hasnt thrown a light yet.

Mine has a rough idle only when in drive with the AC off (idle speed increases slightly with the AC on). I understand from another forum that the rough idle is related to low idle speed and is fixed by reflashing the PCM with the latest software. Try slightly pressing the gas peddle and raising the idle speed just 100 RPM or so and see if it smooths out. Mine does. I'm going to have it checked when I take it in for the first oil change.
MY 04 starts at 1000 rpm's and has a very noticable miss until it warms to operating temp. I only just hit 1000 miles if it still does it at 3000 I will shop it.

drill brings up an excellent point. Have em show u their other f150s that do this if its normal. I have no idle issues on my truck either. Missing after it warms up as trier said sounds like the coil is breaking down.

rough idle
Took my truck in on Wed. 9/29. talked to the service manager about my rough idle at operating temp. He pulled up something called an OASIS on my vin # and this is what he found: "Some 2004 f-150 4x2 with 5.4 may exibit rough idle. Engineering is currently investigating this concern. Do not attemt to repair unless diagnostic trouble codes or other varifiable causes are present. PCM reprograming/replacement and/or engine replacement are not effective repairs for the rough idlecondition. Continue to monitor OASIS for updates." This tells me there is a problem and they dont know how to fix it. I wonder how long I will have to live with it? My truck is 04 SCREW made in KC 11/22/03 5.4 XLT 3.73 gears.
