Question Increasing Keyless Entry Range??

Hey Guys,
The range of the keyless entry remote sucks on my '04 F150. Sometimes I have to be right next to the truck for it to work. I had an aftermarket keyless entry in my old truck (Viper) so maybe I am just spoiled with that, but does anyone else have bad reception? Anyone tried anything to increase the reception or know which wire on the "brain" is the antenna so I can extend it or something? And yes I know about the whole holding the remote to the chin thing, and above your head and behind your back, blah blah blah. I want a real solution to the low range prob.

i share the same feeling. Not like i need a super long distance 2 make me happy. I just hate when i walk 20-20 feet from the truck and walk back 2 lock it, or unlocking it for a friend if i dont want 2 yell the code out or walk over there.

keyless entry working range

My keyless entry working range seems to be adequate. I never actually measured the exact effective footage but I guesstimate about 60’ to 70’. I don’t think I’ve ever tried it at a greater distance than that. A weak battery can reduce the range.

Big Difference

I noticed a BIG difference between my 2003 Lariat and the 2004 FX4. I think my 2003 used to flash the parking lights to confirm unlock, but the 04 doesn't do that. I click twice to unlock ALL doors as I am walking up carrying a bunch of stuff and find that the doors aren't unlocked at all.

I think there is a noticeable difference and I preferred my old Keyless entry system. I am wondering what will happen when I add the remote start??? If you can't remote start it from more than 20 feet away, what good is that?

Holding it in your hand as if you were going to use it, and put it right up against the bottom of your chin and press any button. Should work.

I believe all the new ones have a short range, I was told this was done intentionally for safety reasons, so you would be closer to the vehicle in case you were accosted or an attempted car jacking.

This sort of relates to my dilemma regarding an automatic starter. I was leaning towards the Ford one and having them install it, but would that have crappy range too? The description for the Ford starter states 500 feet, I think. Is that far enough? My cousin had a starter installed on his Ram that can work from 1/4 mile away.

One of the main reasons I'm leaning towards the Ford starter is I'm more comfortable with them installing it, than someone who could screw things up. If I buy an aftermarket one, will Ford install it for me? Or will they only install Ford products?

The range of my keyless entry keyfob is adequate, IMHO. It easily goes 50 feet which is the farthest away that I use it anyway.

Do you have the Ford one? And if so, which part number? There's two in the accessory area on-line.

FCC ID: CWTWB1U331
CAN: 1788 104 575

That number doesn't match the web site. There's actually three listed, but I don't know which one to get. I currently have Securilock and remote keyless entry, but the first one listed doesn't look like it has unlock and lock buttons. The other two look like they'd be giving me extra things I already have. If you got the first, you don't have to carry two key fobs, do you?

Ok. Maybe I'm just looking in a different place. I'm looking on the Ford website and there all the part numbers there start with 2W... Maybe this question will clear it up. Did your remote start cost approximately $186, $229, or $272?

Thanks
