12 Volt and Brake Light in Rear

I just Bought a new A.R.E. topper for my truck and I was told that I should have a constant 12 volt source at the rear and a Brake light connection. By just tapping into one of the brakelights it makes my new 3rd brake light blink when turn signal is on instead of just being on or off. I was trying to not run some leads all the way up to the cab if possible. Any help here would be very appreciated.

What I want to know is do I have a 12 volt and Brake light I can tap into at the rear?

I have a leer cap. The cap's brake light is spliced into the rear brake light, to be honest, I never thought about the turn signal making the brake light flash; have no idea if mine does or not. I don't think there's any 'simple' way around it; may just have to live with it unless you want to splice into the cab's 3rd brake light. I'm assuming you need the constant 12v for the dome light in the cap. When mine was installed, they pulled 12v. from the parking light while they had the light out to get the brake voltage. Bad side is the parking lights need to be on for the light to work. I hated it, so I ran a lead from the dome light circuit in the cab and leave the cap's switch always on. cap dome light is on whenever the trucks interior lights are on. Took about 10 minutes, but is great to have it this way. I took mine off the cab's 3rd brake/bed light wire harness where it runs up the rear pillar on the drivers side, if you take it from there, you could pull the brake light voltage from there as well and everything would work ideally. A little work, but that's your best bet. The louvers on the back bottom corners of the cab behind the back trim panel and between the cab and bed are great spots to pull these leads through. For the third brake light I ran a wire in spiral loom from underneath the right rear door step plate (supercrew). The wire I tapped was green I believe. There is a previous thread out there somewhere where I got the information from. Anyway, I went out the rear drain rubber grommet in the rocker panel and up to the frame to the right rear and then over to the left taillight area. Took the better part of 20 feet of wire and loom. If I had had time, I would have fished it through the boxed frame instead of "lacing" through things on top.

i have an are z-series on mine (Screw) and did the same as moc1. it's a green wire, works fine. clearly this a feature that ford forgot. my 96 f-250 had a nice pigtail pre-wired out the loom at the back just for camper shell brake lights. oh well.
