Muffler Removal

I have a 04 150 with the 5.4. Picked it up about 3 weeks ago and have 850 miles on it now. My last truck had 30000 miles when I bought it so I didn't have this question. I took the muffler out of the old truck and put a pipe in place of it. Kept the original pipe exit location behind the rear tire. My question is, with the new 3v motor and variable valve timing, can I take the muffler out without any harm to the motor? And how long should I wait before doing this?

If I understand the ?, you wish you yank the muffler and go straight-pipe or do you want to put in the muffler from your old truck?

Either way, you are not going to harm anything. Wrap a tow strap around the muffler and floor it! Or use C4. Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I put a 2 chamber flowmaster on mine, and it didn't change the tone enough. Still too quiet.

Just install one of the electric switch valves ahead of the cat. This way you run stock when you need to, then press a button and the exhaust is dumped pre cat straight out. It was featured on Horsepower a while a go. Pretty cool setup.

If you do that, you may have to put in MIL eliminators to keep from throwing a check engine light for the rear O2s.
