Will exhause get a little louder soon ?
Will exhause get a little louder soon ?
Probably silly questions but I don't know a lot about this stuff.
I have an '04 FX-4, 3.73LS. I really like most everything about this truck except for how it sounds and the low end accelleration.
I really don't want to get into a lot of expensive mods since I'm leasing it and really can't afford to put a lot more money into it right now anyway (did liner and side bars).
I just think, for the amount of HP in this 5.4 that it should have a little more punch on acelleration and it ought to sound a little more like it's got some guts.
3 questions:
1. I've only got about 800 miles on it now - will the sound get a little better after a few thousand miles ? My '01 4.6 F150 had a much "throatier" sound.
2. Will the accelleration improve also (I've read that the computer will "train" itself based on how I drive it) ?
3. The birthdate on the door sticker says 4/04 - will having the PCM flashed provide any noticable difference ?

I have the 4.6L V8 with about 12,000 Km's on it now and it does sound slightly louder. I too am in the same boat regarding the lease situation, I have just changed out mufflers in the past on lease vehicles but it seems just as you get it sounding the way you want it is time to turn it in!
It won't get louder with stock mufflers over time unless the mufflers or exhaust starts to rot. Having your PCM flashed won't change the sound either. If you won't sound, then you have to go with new mufflers at the least. Remeber, sound doesn't equal HP's.
