Is 4x4 Hi working????

OK.... Stupid question. I just got my FX4 and it is my 1st 4 wheel drive. I have put it in 4 Hi just to check it out and I do hear a "click" but I really cannot hear or feel that much of a difference when driving. Now 4 Low is a different story!!!

There is a light on the insturment cluster that turns on when 4 hi or 4 lo is engaged (one light for each). These indicators are tied to the transfer case, and only come on when the transfer case is properly engaged. Make sure you read the manual on when and where to engage 4wd. Doing it at the wrong time, or the wrong place (such as on dry pavement) can damage the system.

If the light on the dash comes on but it does not feel like you are in 4WD try going off road or get to some gravel or dirt and goose it. You will find out right away...also never engage 4WD on dry pavement, only on wet boat ramps etc.

4x4 hi is only 1:1. You won't and shouldn't feel to much when you put it in that range. Try 4x4 low (not on pavement!!!) and you'll feel the difference then. IF it goes in 4x4 low then 4x4 hi works.

I'm glad I read this post... because I just picked up my first 4x4 (FX4) a week ago, and I couldn't feel the difference when switch from 2wd to 4wdHi.... but I did hear a small clunk.. which the manual said was normal... btw, I switched it on a wet road, so I'm assuming it was okay..

You'll notice it's harder to steer when in 4x4 too. Like even in a gravel parking lot for example. You can't miss it. Plus, the truck feels much more slugish in 4x4. I don't see how anyone could miss it...even in 4x4 HI

Also to test to see if it works, go on a gravel road or dirt and in 2wd it will spin the tires when you put it in 4 high it won't spin the tires. If you try to put in 4 low range it will take off very hard almost jumpy. Don't use 4 low on pavement!! That would be very hard on your truck!

4X4 is awesome you'll love it! Have fun off roading!
