Vibration Update

The Ford Engineer came to the dealership yesterday and tried several things to resolve the vibration issue with my truck. They removed some shims in or around the drive shaft that was put in place during the TSB steps recommended by the Ford Hotline. Also they tried a new driveshaft that was in stock, same part as my existing driveshaft. They also tried different rims and tires with no noticeable change. They took the new drive shaft out and put my orginal drive shaft back in my truck. My orginal tires and rims were put back on as well. Shims were the only thing removed.

The Engineer said that the vibration was better, but not to his liking so he placed a call and whoever he spoke with suggested that they should order a new drive shaft to resolve the issue. I'm not 100% sure, but I assume its a drive shaft that is new...probably new design or something done differently. Couldn't get that information out of the dealership. Top secret I suppose...LOL!

I drove the truck home this morning and the pulsating/rotational vibration is 95% gone. At 55 the truck is a little rough(nibble) but nothing severe and not much of a vibration. It's very acceptable to drive. They said that nothing was done other than what was noted at the beginning of this post. Okay I'll buy that!....LOL!

My Update...

Not Fixed Yet:

AC – Cool at best… Not like other ’04 F-150’s I have driven.
Tailgate Straps: Right side longer, but it’s not the strap.
Vibration: 3 types,
Step on the gas, rumbles through truck 55-65, not like other ’04 F-150’s I have driven. I didn’t hear this from the start, because during break-in, I didn’t hit the gas at all.
If you have change in the cup holder or a drink, it amplifies the sound (all the time vibration) so you can really hear the harmonics of it. It vibrates the seats, wheel, radar detector on the front windshield, the rear seats and the jack. You can also hear the LFH door panel jingle around.
While at constant speeds, usually in OD, there is a whine. This sound was not there from the start…

According to Michigan law, a lemon is a vehicle that has been in 3-4 times for the same problem or in the shop for 30+ days, if it is a safety issue, it is only 1-2 times.

1. I had my vehicle in the shop for (day 1) for the tailgate straps not the same length or supporting the tailgate properly. They were replaced, but the issue still exists.

1. I have had mine in the shop for (day 2) for a tire / vibration problem, thought it was just one tire’s tread seperation. – Fixed with a new tire’s and rebalance. – Vibration still there.

2. I had mine in the shop for (day 3) for a tire / vibration problem, thought it was just another tire’s tread seperation, also there was factory defects with the other 3 tires, so all four tires were replaced and rebalanced. Vibration still exists.

3. I have had my truck in for (day 4) to replace some defective trim pieces, a broken gas door assembly, and rebalance tires (3rd time), still vibration.

4. I took my truck in for (days 5-13) to fix the vibration and the AC. They road force balanced the tires, and a vibration still exists. The ford engineer will be up to look at it. The current condition of the AC is unknown. They may look next at a drive shaft or rear end?

***** So I still have to wait for an engineer, yet I have been without my truck for 2 weeks so far and I still have not had any real work on the vibration issue yet, nor does anyone know what it is???

SHOULD I JUST ASK FOR A NEW DAMN TRUCK???

For some reason you will have to be reasonable but yet aggressive at the same time to get the results you want to see. This vibration issue is very frustrating. I'm still frustrated, but I believe we are finally getting Ford to find a resolution to this problem. Keep the information coming. People are looking at this board right now with great interest.

Glad you got your truck fixed to your satisfaction(sort of). The driveshaft they are ordering might be the same one as the last one they put in my truck. Like I said it made a big difference and is not gone but I am satisfied and at least I haven't been told it is fixed now deal with it.

You realize you have typed pretty much the same thing in about 7 threads now? If your really that irked with everything, demand a new truck. Look up your states lemon laws and see what your options are. Posting your problems over and over again isn't going to get them fixed.
