Splash guard question

Hello,

I got my new FX4 last week and I am slowly adding items from my never ending "want" list. I ordered a set of the Ford splash guards and just received them today. My truck is black with the shadow grey two tone on the bottom. I have not installed them yet but I am wondering if I could dye them to match the grey lower paint and wheel well molding? I've seen the spray on dye's (looks like spray paint) used for the interior of cars and I'm not sure that it would work on the splash guards? Do any of you have thoughts on this idea? Would the dye hold up to the elements? Thanks!

https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?gnum=4490 I would believe you would get a more durable paint if you used reg. auto in a can. You can find this color if you search some different brands. You will also need a adhesion promoter to make it stick to plastic . I woudn't go thru the work to have it peel off. Also hope you put up a pick of them i was also interested in the molded mud flaps iv'e seen and allways wait to see what they look like installed.

I have the ford molded mud flaps on my truck, and they look really good. I havent gotten any pics yet, cause it keeps raining and I can't keep the truck clean to get any good pics . Anyway, I'll try to take some shots here soon, but I do recommend them, as they look great.

I have been looking to add a set of splash guards too. I also have the two tone Lariat paint scheme (bright Red top and Arizonia Beige on the bottom) and have been thinking about painting the guards to match the lower paint color. Below is the web address for a site that sells the Ford factory colors (I have already purchased red (E4) to re-paint my front grill) and the color match is excellent. I am in the process of looking for a pair of front only guards that will fit with the factory running boards, 4x4 and the wheel lip moldings (a hard combo to find in stock). I was lucky to find and purchase a pair of rear guards that were molded in the Arizonia Beige color instead of black (these are made for the King Ranch trim package) so I won't have to worry about any chipping in the rear.

I am interested in what to use as a primer/base coat (i.e. surface adhesion treatment) for the front guards. Suggestions are welcome.

What about using that new krylon spray paint that's made for outdoor plastic furniture?
Seems like they'd have a primer in that "series" ...

ROBOOTS seemed to rain about every other day around here too. iieee good point on furniture paint it would most likely have the flexable agent needed to stop cracking in paint since it is hard. Most of them only available in solid colors but may find a great match on the wheel lip gray. MMM will have to start looking myself now .MRPHISH thats a great site i put it in my favarites not a bad price. It.s cheaper then the paint supply when you consider the mixes you have to buy to spray tail light covers and other paint to match. Check this site on the molded mud flaps http://www.premiermotoring.net

It's Called Fusion

Looks like ieee_raider was correct. It's called Krylon Fusion. Here is blurb from a web site:

"Discover this revolutionary paint for plastic--Krylon Fusion. This top-selling paint is the first of its kind that bonds directly to most plastics. Turn a treasured toy into something new again. Get many more years of enjoyment out of your outdoor patio furniture. And don't waste that waste paper basket - simply give it a new coat of paint. No sanding, no priming, no fuss. Dries in 15 minutes or less."

I'm going to see if they make a primer since I'm sure they don't carry the Ford color Arizonia Beige (AQ). I'll post the results.

River Rock = primer

They don't make a primer, but the color River Rock is a light to medium gray so it looks like this will work as a base coat to adhere to the plastic and then use the Ford color on top. Will take pictures of the results and post.
