When should I do my first oil change..?

I'm nearing 450 miles with my new truck (picked it up 8 days ago)... and I was just wondering how long everyone else waited to do their first oil change...

I figure I'll use the Ford Motorcraft Synthetic Blend for the first couple changes, and then switch to Amsoil after that....

miles

3000 is perfect. no break in required...

If you do it at 500 you will waste your $$$$$$$$$$$$...

Actually the dealer says 5000 intervals with this truck is fine, but for the cost of OLF, you might as well do 3000K intervals with motorcraft 5w20...

Your probably right.... I was so **** about the 331 I put in Mustang... changing the oil after 3 minutes of idle... then at 200 miles... then again at 1000 miles.. lol.. I guess I just forgot what owning a new car was like..

I've already bought a case of the Motorcraft 5w20 ($1.41 @ Walmart).... so in a couple thousand miles I'll do the change..

Thanks..

Even though Ford says you can go 5000 miles between changes I do mine at every 3000. I look at it as an insurance policy on the engine.

When I bought my truck the dealer included a "customer for life" program. Free Oil changes, tire rotations, car washes, yearly safety checkups and a limited lifetime warranty on the motor providing I have all the service done at their dealership. Now the oil changes and all are free but I figure they make up for it when I have to do that 15k, 30k checkup services that are like $300 bucks each. I usually never do them.

But my dealership said every 5000 give or take 500.

Anyone else do all the services listed in the owners' manual?

put 0w20 mobil 1 in at 1,500 miles. will change again at 5,000. and then each 5,000.

get ready for a fight when trying to get that factory oil filter off. andre the giant must have a job with ford installing oil filters.

I have found over the many years of owning and driving new vehicle, that following the owner manual exactly makes for less potenial problems.

Especially, when any warranty work comes into play.

I have always wondered how all of these heavily modified trucks do when any sigificant warranty work is performed.

Especially when the warranty work involves the areas that have been modified?

I did my first change at 1500 for peace of mind (maybe a waste of $20, but it made me feel better) and now I'll do it again at 5000 and every 5000 from then on.

My brother did in his '98 Expy and went 99K trouble-free miles. It was only in the shop for routine services.

I started to in my '03 Sequioa, but wound up trading it in after only 30K miles because it was such a POS. I don't think it really had much to do with the maintenance, though - it was all "across the board" factory problems that people nationwide were experiencing.

I just did my 1st oil change at 540 miles on my FX4 with 5-20 Motorcraft synthetic blend and a FL820s Filter. (factory filter was a bastid to get loose) Some of my friends and family laughed at me for "wasting" $20.00 but I look at it as a pretty cheap expense for some peace of mind on a $40,000 truck.
