They were a little difficult to get info out of after I got mildly peeved with how long it took to complete the repairs and how the whole thing was handled..

They "found a bad seal in the 3rd brake light housing".

I THINK it was a large rubber gasket that was supposed to keep water from getting in between the plastic of the 3rd brake light housing and the metal body of the cab.
Rather than just replace the "seal" they "decided to replace the entire housing". They had to order it from Ford.

They didn't show me the old housing, nor did they show me the faulty seal. They also asked politely "why" I wanted to see the faulty seal.

If I can help further, let me know. I may see the salesman I went through next week- he may be able to get me more info if needed.
The service guys and gals aren't people I'd really like to have to deal with anytime soon.
My "Free 5K service" might get interesting- especially if they try to keep it overnight again...

C1--thanks for the info..it's the most specific and also interesting feedback on this issue so far. So this indicates the seal and also housing. We do know now that this 3rd brake light is another source of problems & that it's a bummer when it leaks. The service people should have shown you the seal or told you exactly why there was a problem & if your truck was affected and you were inconvenienced then you deserved to know. There has to be a way to design and assemble this type of brake light on the cab roof with NO way for any possible leakage!

conservative1--do you have any idea what exactly caused the leak (like the seal) ?Like I said before--the (2) screw holes on the cover are facing directly up, so water could possible go in there but I don't know if it could get into the cab though. If you know anything , pass it on- thanks.

MHarris

If you take the 3rd brake light off and see the holes you can see the backside of the headliner. I pushed on mine to make sure that was the headliner and in fact it was. Just as a test before I took it in, I taped a piece of plastic over it for two days and then we got a heavy rain and guess what...that's right....no water in my cab, so I knew the solution. If you look at the seal on the backside of the brake light it is pretty cheap and I don't see how it would stop any water at all, which in my case it didn't. They(Ford) just resealed my light, not replace the entire light fixture and for the most part I am satisfied, but if it leaks again, I will demand the entire assembly be replaced. Good luck.

I should have asked before-are these holes for wiring & how big in dia. Also, The most puzzling question is why they all don't leak?

I can't honestly tell you why they are there, I would assume like you said, for wiring or something. They holes are about two inches wide and about one inch high. They are capable of letting water through and into your headliner, and with the light cover on, you can't tell which one if not all are leaking.

Thumbs down

Thanks RandallT--this is really hard to beleive. (3) 1x2 holes. If there is a need for wiring holes-they of course should be no larger than the wiring with grommets or other leakproof seals. It's gotta be good though. What a joke!
