Your Thoughts On The '04 F-150

I really wondering about how the '04 F-150 problems compare to some of the previous years? It really seems there have been some very major quality issues connected with the introduction of the completely new F-150. I've read about all the vibrations, shudders, clunks, LSD clutches & rear end whines, A/C complaints, throttle lag and of course the many expensive parts that have been replaced under warranty to try and resolve some of this. Some of these issues are totally unacceptable and seemingly disgraceful for Ford. You would think that even with a new truck design, a totally well developed quality control program should have prevented much of this. What's your opinion?

My first thought is that youre nothing but a Flamer and are expecting to start crap, If you really wanted to know alot of opinions you wouldnt bad mouth the truck at the end of ur posting about the quality of fords product.........

This is a message board, *DURRRR* and on message boards you get people from every city, state, Country you name it they are here....... The problems you see are few and far, Alot of people have 0 problems, some have alot of problems, and some have a little tiny bit of problems that doesnt even really matter just little fix its, The truth is no vehicle comes off the asembly line 100% Perfect with no defects, no manafacture who makes mass products has a vehicle that comes with no problems, The new 04 f50 which has been redesigned in every which way to me, did come perfect for being its first year out.... just my 2cents

I don't like the looks of the 04 f-150 or the concept of the 3 valve engine.
Ford could have did more with the 5.4

The 04 f-150 is a giant leap in trems of ride and handeling over the last generation f-150.

I owned a 97 f-150 that was a excellant truck, my last 02 was a expensive junk pile.

The previuos generation f-150 had a lot of problems that ford could not fix and with the 04 being a new body style with new stearing-suspension I'm not confident Ford has solved thier quality control problems.

Thier are going to be problems with the 04 until Ford get's all the bugs worked out of them, Ford is still trying to fix ildeler arm problems with the 97-03 f-150.

The market place will tell if the f-150 lives or dies, ford's quailty of late is unworthy of the built ford tough slogan.

My 2001 f-350 is awsome.

Have to go with Supercab on this one. Out of the 800,000 + 2004 F-150's Ford sold, I bet you can't find 1,000 with these terrible quality issues (actually I bet you can't find 200).

The only reason you are seeing supposed problems with the 2004 F 150 is that on these forums you are dealing with people who expect the best and because they love their trucks are hyper critical....as they should be.
For every one problem there are probably 100 people out there who are totally happy with their truck and totally unaware of this forum which highlights things that most people will never notice.
OK..there are a few issues, but it IS a totally new vehicle and the law of averages is such that there will be a small number of problems.
As for my own experience, I have had 2 2004 F 150's and happily haven't had a single problem to report.
And I know people here are sick of me saying this but I can't think of a better recommendation....it rides as quietly as my Bentley....and, hoping no one from the Bentley Driver's club is watching this.....I enjoy driving my truck just as much !!

PS SuperCab V8....

He may have overstated his question a little but I don't think he could be classified as a 'flamer' !

Not sure where you're coming from here. You could do a search and find alot of comments on the 04. I don't own one one but I'll tell you what, I wish I did. I have an 03 that at 30K miles has had zero problems, and I mean zero! The 04 is supposed to be even better, and I believe it. I say this to people all the time and I'll say it here. The buying public isn't stupid, and the F150 is the #1 selling vehicle in America for a reason. And believe me, Ford wants to keep it that way. If you're that paranoid, buy the extended waranty, or go to the dark side and buy something else.

The fact is that this is a built Ford Tough truck, no matter what you think you have found on this site. The quality is tip top and few and far between have problems.
Its kinda like if you had a headache and then did a search on the internet for headaches...you would get 1000s of articles relating your simple headache to brain cancer, do you think you have a brain tumor now, lets hope not. You will always see more negative posts than positive, ON ANY VEHICLE. Sqeaky wheel gets the oil.
The new F150 is an outstanding truck, no complaints and I would buy another one if I could.

no issues with my '04.

I don't like the electronic throttle... but hey, this truck is all technology.

From what I read and hear, it sounds like the 3v 5.4 is very much held back by Ford (de-tuned). It is capable of developing much more Tq/HP without considerable engine wear.

This bodes well for those that wish to do a lot of aftermarket mods.

My truck is just fine, absolutely no vibration at any speed, towing or not, A/C is freezing cold, quiet, etc., etc., etc, as near to perfect a truck can get.

When you read these threads you have to take them with a grain of salt. Some of the posts obviously are some are serious concerns.

Yep, looks like this ones gona be a Flamer

While I do not own one, they ride and drive great, and look good! I haven't heard of many serious problems with them.

I have the vibration and had the check engine light issue. Overall the truck is really a nice truck. It has a good ride, nice interior, good looking exterior, and seems to have a good amount of power. I'm just a little disapointed in the lack of resolution for the vibration issue that some of us are having. Other than that it's a good truck all the way around. If they solve the vibration issue then I would say that it's a fantastic truck.

I haven't had any troubles with mine either. I have a very slight shim in the steering wheel, but it's not enough to complain about. I am very happy with the construction and comfort this truck has to offer. I drove my wifes Nissan Altima yesterday and it's a very plush vehicle, but I missed my truck to no end. I love getting in and cruising down the road. I have learned one thing throughout my life and that if it's man made, it will break and nothing is perfect. Other comments that were made are true as well about the statistics regarding those that have problems versus those that don't. It's my money. I spent it how I wanted. I'm satisfied with my purchase.
