Question Autospring Owners

Are any of you with the 1.5" spacer having trouble with the upper control arm hitting the spring? I read a post on another site where the statement was made that both springs had marks where the upper control arm was striking the spring. I've got an '04 on the way and have purchased the autospring spacers but I don't want to put them on if this is a problem.

I had the AutoSpring 1.5" spacers on for about two weeks, and took them back off for several reasons. The control arm did hit the spring when it was jacked up. I didn't really like that, but I never noticed it hitting during normal driving. Here's my main reasons for taking them back off:

1) I didn't like the "level look" as much as I thought I would. After having it both ways, I actually prefer the original look.
2) The truck had a different "feel" when making tight turns.
3) I lost about 1 - 2 MPG in fuel economy.

Reasons 2 and 3 might have been resolved if I had the front end aligned, which I didn't.

I had heard that this was only a problem on the larger Autospring kits, as they would make the upper control arm hit the spring. I don't understand how going to a different leveling kit that gives you the same amount of lift could help the control arm from not hitting the spring. Think about it, if you put in a leveling kit from some other company that is the same height, it just looks different, so it is pointless to change to another leveling kit if you ask me. I have seen some people say that the upper control arm hits only when the suspension is at full extension when jacked up. Honeslty, when will you have the front suspension so uncompressed that this could happen? Unless you jump the truck, I don't see it happening. If done right and with and alignment, it should work fine. I would like to hear updates from Bart and Bill Maier to see what they have to say about this issue. Thanks.

i have had mine on now for about 1500 miles or so and have had no trouble at all. i notice no differences in driving or handling and have not had anything banging or rubbing and i take the truck off road and play quite a bit.....

i have yet to get an alignment and have no tire wear issues, havn't noticed a change in my mpg at all either

i have spoken with autospring and they said that the 1.5" kit is perfect and will not hit on the upper control arm, but they admit that any larger kit will cause control arm issues under certain conditions.

hope this helps! i might be taking mine off soon but it aint going to be to go back to stock!!

I had the 2" spacer(over 3" lift) on for a couple months and had serious issues with the upper control arm clanking loudly against the coil going slowly over large speed bumps. I switched to the 1.5" spacer and havent had any clearance issues since. No drop in gas mileage and identical feel when making tight turns. Some other brands of leveling kits put the spacer in the spring pack, preloading the spring and reducing your compression travel and not allowing the suspension to drop as far at full extension. The autospring allows you to retain all your stock suspension travel but can create problems with the extra extension. The 1.5" has been perfect for my truck.
the truck has a much better feel to it sitting level, than the sagging drooping stock front end.

1.5" rocks. I wouldn't put anything on a 40k truck I didn't thoroughly research it. I am more than pleased.

Yes the upper A arm does hit the coil when the truck is off of the ground, but who cares. I don't generally get air in my 40k truck when driving. The only way it would hit with the 1.5 is to launch the truck so the entire front end had time to unload.

Hope this helps ya.

Thanks to all for easing my mind. The autospring 1 5/8" spacer will go in when the truck arrives. Should be here in a few weeks.
