Unhappy Auto Trans Downshift Vibration

I've done a search on this site however haven't located a similar posted issue, so here goes.

2004, F150, 4X4, reg cab, 5.4L, 3.55 ration rear end.

After 400 miles (944 current), when coming to a normal stop, light brake pressure, straight line, I am getting a high freq vibration up through the steering wheel between 25 and 21 mph as the vehicle slows to a stop. Best guess is the shudder occurs when the vehicle is downshifting from 2nd to 1st.

Service says! "Shudder is a normal condition". I say, "garbage" to that.

No-one would buy a vehicle off the lot with that condition and in 40+ years of driving I've never seen this.

Anyone "been there done that"?

Appreciate any feedback, suggestions and feel free to email me at: pdionne@sbcglobal.net

thanks, phil

Noticed the same on mine but haven't raised issue with dealer. Watch the tach when this happens- drops to 8-900 rpm and then rises at same time vibration stops. My guess is the converter is staying locked up at too low of speed(3rd gear) and lugging the engine. Hoping this can be fixed when the programmer comes out.

good pick up. i haven't noticed the rpm changing when it occurs but I'll mention it to the service manager cause they still have it.

he thinks it might be the "clutch packs". I picked up another thread on the ford enthusiats web site where a guy had the same problem and replacing the packs fixed it.

thanks,
