lift question
lift question
The six inch pro-comp kit is about $1000 cheaper than the Fab-tech and superlift kits. I wanted the superlift kits but the pro-comp is so much cheaper (because it doesn't come with the new front springs I think). I don't plan on doing any serious off roading or rock crawling, but is there something bad that I don't know about the procomp? Is there more cutting/welding involved?
I have the lift in a box waiting to be installed. LOL the money isnt really there yet to get the tires or pay the install costs so it sits and waits to go in the truck. I have researched all the big lifts and I decided to go with this one. Several other on this site actually have it in their truck and love it, so I would do some searching and see what you come up with. I know tpeterson has it in his and is usually more than happy to field questions about it. All I can say is based on price, reputation of ProComp, reccomendations I have received, this is the best deal. The Skyjacker and Rancho kits are nice too, they just dont give the front coil over spacer option and rather just jump into a whole new coil, which is where the cost difference is. The spacer in the ProComp lift is pretty much the exact same thing as the daystar. So if you dont like the spacer idea then you have to go up to the stage 2 procomp or go with another brand (Rancho, Skyjacker, Fabtech) all which have a new front coil for much more serious offroading. Not that the ProComp wont do, but these other lifts are competition grade and someone like me who doesnt go offroading more than once a month or so doesnt really need a $700-$1000 upgrade. You can upgrade the front of the procomp to a stage 2 at any time. look at some of the other posts about these, there is a lot of info out there. All are good brands it comes down to what you need, similar to the XLT, FX4, Lariat debate. You can get the Procomp lift installed for about the price of the Rancho or Skyjacker parts and it is still a very capable lift. Hope some of this helps. tpeterson, or any of you guys with the lift around for some more info?
Yeah, I think the difference in price is basically the use of a replacement coilover vs. a spacer. Pro Comp has a good reputation. Some people claim that the replacement coilover shocks ride rougher on the street than the spacers used in the Pro Comp lift. You can always go with the spacer and then add the replacement coilover later if you wish. I've read reviews on the installation of the Pro Comp, Fabtech and Skyjacker lifts and they all appear to be pretty much the same.
Thank you both for the info. This is very good news! Around 1300 for the lift, 1200 for wheel/tire combo. Now I just need to talk my buddy into installing it for me and I'm ordering!
