DVD rail status?
DVD rail status?
I almost ordered an '04 F-150 Lariat Supercrew a couple of months back. The only thing holding me back from taking one off the lot was that none had a dvd player. Also, from what I understood, the dvd rail wasn't ready and it wasn't wired for it.
Has there been any change in the dvd rail system? I see you can get the new '05s DVD wired now, but when is the dvd rail coming?
Thanks in advance.

dvd rail system
been asking the same question since i bought my supercrew back in oct 03...basic response from ford has no idea when their "supplier" will have it ready. it has always been list in their literature and web site as a late availability item...late when 06? love the truck just would like to have dvd to keep the kiddies busy.. i guess i'll have to wait with the rest of use who have the rail system and or until a aftermarket option comes out.....any info out there?
My question when looking at the '04 was if once the dvd rail does come out, will it drop right in? The parts guy told me more than likely it won't since it wasn't wired from the factory. I guess he was right since the '05s now have a dvd pre-wiring option.
Hopefully my dealer will be smart enough to at least order the '05s pre-wired. I could live with that.

the late availability was Feb 2004 to order the factory dvd.
We are in the process of getting approval and release of a wire harness for the 04 trucks. the harness will be similar to the "pre-wire kit for the 05, but available through accessories for any trucks build before this date, ar anyone that now wants to add the dvd. The rails themselves do not change, there is an addtional harness that is found when cutting a hole in the headlienr at the dvd install location and finding the connector end.
we are taking pics of the install of the harness in my personal truck literally today to be used for the illustrations in the installation manual.
realistically.... 2 months or so before availability, but we are plugging away
pending final approval by ford of course. but your requests are being used to reinforce the desire for the DVD so thanks for the interest

thats the biggest reason i did buy my 04 was cuz it was the only one anywhere i could find that did have the DVD, oh and it works great, even my dealer said it was the oonly one he had seen.

I too was waiting on the release of the DVD system and wire harness. But with vacation trip now less than 3 weeks away I could wait no longer.
I purchased a "system" from Crutchfield that consists of two 7" monitors that attach to the headrest via brackets, two wireless headphones, a video signal booster and a DVD player. The system is by no means "integrated" or pretty but it works and should keep the kids entertained during the 600+ miles each way to Michigan and back.

I also have the DVD, but will probably never use it.
It was the only Blazing Yellow with the features that I wanted, and it just happened to have the DVD option, though I would rather have had the sunroof.

If your rig already has the overhead rail installed, then you can add the DVD, WITHOUT FM modulation. Anyone that tells you otherwise doesn't kniw what htey are talking about. How do I know??? because I just had it done on my 04.
